Did Shahrukh Khan really slept on railway platform when first came to Mumbai?

May be!

But fact remains that his mother was a 1st class judge and qualified from oxford in 80s when female literacy was just 39% in India.

His father tried to be an actor and he knows some famous names in Bollywood too. His family used to know The Gandhi Family vary well at that time, as they say that his father was a freedom fighter.

(SRK's grandfather with Lal Bahadur Shastri in suit)

His family owns car and restaurant in Delhi in early 80s. His home was occupied with TV and VCR.

He came to Mumbai in search of his girlfriend by air. SRK does not like travel by train (except film promotion). In his early days he used to give concession to the producer of his serial to compensate value of his flight ticket.

He have an interfaith marriage. In India you could not live with inter-cast marriage but he being a Muslim married to a Hindu girl and that too in 90s. It shows the social standard of SRK and his family.

Now I want to ask some wiered question here.

How many of you rented VCR to watch movies in 90s and how many of you see an electric pole in your village before DDLJ? How many Quora members take regular flights for travel one city to another and how many of you studied in Delhi's high profile colleges?

If you analyse the answer of above questions you will find that privileges which SRK was having in 1980, you don't have in 2017 too.

There are thousands family in India who still not have bicycle in their home. There are millions of children who are starving and not able to attend the schools. There are millions homeless families sleeping on footpaths and railway stations and that is a compulsion for them.

For SRK it was a choice not a compulsion.

I think the post is generalizing a lot.. he was from relatively rich family than average Indian.. but why target him like this :( ...so what if it was a choice for him, what is the point the quora member is trying to make?

Mithun Chakraborty slept on footpath before he got movie. He was a huge huge success :)

Rags to riches story is heartening as many rally behind the underdog. It's human. I am sure his struggles are exaggerated but not denying that it didn't entirely happen. Maybe he waited in the cloakroom for few hours which became him sleeping on the platform. But he is self made and no one can take that away from him.

What a bunch of generalizations man. The anecdote regarding him and his friend sleeping at the platform of one of the stations in Bombay was narrated on Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai. They were staying at another friend's apartment but he asked them to leave on the second day so they slept at the platform. As for interfaith marriages not happening in the 90s or whatever that was, what?! Interfaith marriages did happen in the 90s and even before that. Infact I remember reading in one of the interviews that Shahrukh had given the address of a friend of his so a bunch of protestors landed up at that person's house and protested. Interfaith marriages have always been a big deal since we still live in society where even now such marriages are still termed as "love jihad" by some bigots out there.
As for the rest, his mother was a magistrate. He's on record stating she went to London at one point if I'm not wrong. His father was a freedom fighter and had studied law but wasn't successful at it when it comes to the profession. He did have a tea shop in Delhi. I think at one point there was also a business his mother was running and after her passing, Shahrukh tried to handle it but couldn't. There were debts and all. He has even talked about how the car his mother had bought if I'm not wrong was taken away as she had passed away and he didn't know it was bought on a loan or something on those lines.
Shahrukh belongs to a family that's very well educated, they knew the Gandhis as his father was the youngest freedom fighter. His mother I think came from a very well off family from Hyderabad but Shahrukh's father wasn't rich from whatever I have come across. He was well educated but I don't think he was successful when it came to his professional life.

SRK lived in a rented house with no furniture till 1996( that is four years after entering Bollywood) . If he really had money , why was he unable to buy a house for himself? The generalizations made in this post are ridiculous!
Don't know what pleasure people get in demeaning other's success.
