Guys I will make three posts for each of the characters with this title. Because for me the essence of the show was this dialogue Marega ya Maarega. Will you kill or Will you die. The other line is " Will an Indian soldier change" . This I will write as concluding post .This will appear a bit philosophical, but do bear with me. The flashbacks, the explanations given for each of the character is helping me a bit to write this post.
We need to understand one thing. The eastern philosophy has its roots in Karma or rather action. Results are always based on your Karma. But Karma is not linear, it is very much non linear. Because one action doesnt create one reaction, it creates multiple reactions and you have to pay for all the reactions. That's why the learnt people say do Karma in such a way it benefits larger crowd. The reason is simple. If they are more positive reactions than the negative the effect of negative reactions will be reduced.

So now the question is Can you kill and survive. Or is it better to die but still live. We all have to die one day. If not today, but tomorrow. That's the truth. If you kill someone maybe you will live one day more. But then as I said again based on why the action was committed, under what condition it was comitted the result also changes.

Now look at Sartaj Singh. Under extreme stress he killed one of his brother. You cannot find fault with Sartaj because that was the mental torture he went through. But you cannot deny the action also that he killed or so he believed. The choice Sartaj made gave rise to a monster. In a way that day the gentle Sid died while Sartaj was forced to choose between Sid and Iman. Yes he told kill me, still the psychological impact for a human is so huge. When time came I was not choosen by my brother. Yes Iman is also his brother. But still one brother was chosen over another. See the epilogue says soldiers are also human. What happened in jail was what the human Sartaj did, not the soldier Sartaj. He wanted to live.

Now Sartaj comes back or rather the man who Sartaj killed gives him a second chance. Note the point they come because of Sid. So the man whom you didnt choose, chooses you. Obviously it has to be his mission, not your mission for which you got the second chance. Because he got the second chance from some monsters who manipulated every aspect of him because you couldnt choose him.

You live, you enjoy everything goes perfect for you. Then the Karma comes. Once again Will you Kill or Will you die plays out. And this time Sartaj singh is not a human, he is a soldier. He kills, but he dies too. But is he dead. No. The people who he killed are nameless, faceless. But he becomes immortal. He lives in memories. his heroism becomes talk of the town. And physically he will survive through his child boy or girl.

Yes he could have lived some more time in that torture chamber after killing Sid and then died an unknown death. A woman had Harleen would have waited endlessly for her husband 20 years, 25 years as her life would withered away in loneliness.

Sid let him off. He lived. Harleen got a closure. She will be a mother. A respected citizen of the country. And tomorrow if she wants she can remarry. Because her husband is no longer Missing in Action, he has died the death of a hero. The status is clear widow of a martyr.

Yes the soldier was a human in captivity. He did action which he doesnt want the world to know. He repented for it. But still he had to pay for the Karma but in front of the world he remained a soldier always, because the one who he killed became a terrorist. 😃

We say surrendering your actions at the feet of Naryana liberates you. Yes Sartaj was liberated from his Karma the most royal way, the most heroic way yet allowing him to live on people's heart and survive through his child.

Liberation or mukti is what we get at last...based on our karma. ..sartaj in a way got salvation
He admitted his crime and asked for punishment
When he knew sid was alive. ..he tried his best to get him back. ...he was most happy
and d same man...gave sartaj immortality. ..
in a way sid's comeback as sadiq gave sartaj a respectful closure. ..
...in way sid did live as sid even after d near death only to be dead with an assumed death of hussain...
Strange r d ways. ..i can never understand. .

@athira yes assumed death of Hussain. That's why the line will become more complicated when it comes to the analysis of Sid. And that's why I said Karma is not linear, it is non linear. Many times we take it linear.
Also the feelings matter when you do action. Because result will be combination. When Sartaj killed he was breaking from inside. And it is exactly those breaking feels that finally gave him a heroic death.

@anshvi the closure is the thing. yes it is painful, but that is the truth. If something happens just like that, it is not a miracle there is a reason why it happens. Results are not always what we expect it to be, but it is not bad either.

Agree...it is indeed a harsh reality of life😭

But i was not prepared for such a tragic, depressing ending 😭

Harleen did get closure after 17 years of long wait...But her hopes of a new life, a new beginning with her husband and kid after going through trials and tribulations were crushed badly.
She got a second chance at life only to see it mercilessly taken away from her 😭

I am sure Harleen deserved a happily ever after than a closure.

Not only Harleen all the characters deserved happiness which none of them really got 😭

What a harsh reality 😭 We are finding it hard to bear when this is happening to fictional characters, how hard it would be for those who suffer it in reality...my heart goes out to them 😭

Amazing amazing analysis shruti . The way You have summed up Sartaj is beautiful . He was a person in conflict with himself when he returned due to his traumatic experience but finally he was able to find happiness & peace for himself &'family . I always wanted a happy ending for the three pows but sadly none got that . Harleen has gotten a closure now & also her child which would be her strength to survive because she is indeed a strong women but still she deserved better then she got .
