In many forums of IF, we see fiction stories written on any couple where the female lead is always written simple and innocent while the hero can be arrogant businessman who insults, shouts, manhandles and sometimes even rapes the heroine but still the hero is forgiven. Such stories gets more readers. And the people who wrote strong and birch heroine with the hero suffering after foubg anything wrong like hurting the hero that story gets very less readers compared to the former type of stories. Also in many shows, the heroes who are arrogant and abusive are not while decent and sweet heroes are boring. In Udaan, Suraj is preferred over Aditya and Vivaan for Chakor and in Begusarai, Lakhan was preferred over Priyom for Poona. And cvs actually listened to such people and made those jerks opposite the heroines. In IB only, after what all wrong Shivaay did some wanted Anika to end up with Om but many wanted only Shivaay. I gave enough proofs to show that something is wrong with our own generation.

Nice post Deepika😊. I will post my comment later. But this reply of mine to Luna's comment will also answer your question a little.

It's true that older generation shows were more progressive than the present ones. But it is more to do with the trend which changed after KSBKBT. This show started the trend of regressive shows, if I'm not wrong??? But it doesn't denies the fact that Indian TV is watched more by the older generation and they have a big hand in getting TRPs for these type of shows. The younger gen who watches these shows, mostly ends up watching it on Hotstar and not television.

But I agree that jerky ML and innocent FLs are enjoyed by our generation only. Young girls enjoy manhandling and MCP behaviour and call it romance and love.Mostly because they expect the girl to change the guy.

Star plus is fooling people from many years
There's nothing like nayi soch and women empowerment
Infact most of the shows of this channel are regressive
They speak of bringing nayi soch shows and even brings them too
But either they pull their plugs before even giving them proper chance or ask the producers to change the story totally
Take Ib and dbo only
Anika was a strong independent girl earning her livelihood
She never used to take shit from anyone
Though bubbly yet a strong character
But now she is just a sacrificing bahu aimless girl
Ishaana a con girl using a wrong way to get what she wanted
Basically a grey character hated by many
As a result we got Gauri who is yet again a bubbly sacrificing girl
Saumya a sweet girl who doesn't care of what others think regarding her figure
Love angel
But as soon as the news of her becoming grey came many opposed it because they can't accept it

Who said that KSKBT was regressive??
Yes the women in that show weren't working (first generation) but they didn't lack self respect, not even once did Tusli accept the wrongs allegations or attrocities of her mother in law n rather have her back big time. She threw her husband out of her house when she found that he was cheating on her

And the second generation heroines were very much working, Nandani was a journalist while Ganga was a business woman, she was shown to be working even after the third generation leap, she worked as a top level business woman n employed her ex husband in her company

That show gave such an awesome platonic friendship between Ganga n Karan that Karan always said that he cares about Ganga more than Sahil n Ganga always said that she trusts Karan the most, theirs was the best platonic friendship shown in TV

The shows of Ekta are just told to be regressive but practically they were much more progressive

My main problem with Gauri is not that she's uneducated , but the fact that she has very regressive thinking . Her 'viswas' jaap & things actually falling on place cause of her 'viswas' is what irritates me to no end . And I'm not even going into her touching anyone & everyone's feet including Om . Does she have a thing for feet ? šŸ˜•
My aunt ( elder sister of my father ) is not much educated ( she got married just after passing her 12th ) . And she leaves in a village , but she absolutely rules in her family , she always treated uncle ( who is much more educated than her & holds a high post government job ) as her equal & never as someone superior . In fact the family runs on her errand . She takes all the major monetary decisions . And she is a woman of another generation , not even this one . I'm going to be a doctor & my aunt is my inspiration .
I just took an example . The thing is I've seen quite a few poorly educated ladies in a so called 'backward' village who runs small businesses & bread owners of their family along with their husbands . They run on hardwork , intelligence & shrewdness , not on 'viswas' & certainly do not treat their husbands as God . So certainly it is not all about education . It is about a person's integrity & character . GK is deliberately putting down village girls . 🄱

Mills & Boons ruined our TV industry. Earlier in 80s, 90s and even till mid 2000s we had many progressive shows but some serial makers started copying Mills & Boons kinds of stories from the West side of the world. And shockingly, people of our own generation started getting attracted to them to the point that they find manhandling, blackmailing, insulting scenes as hot but they don't like it if heroines do all that to the hero. I think I wrote most of the things in reply to Luna's comment. People especially from our generation has this galatfehmi while watching the show that 'the more he is hating her the more he will love her'. I find this line horrifying and disgusting that the next time when some man bullies a girl we should tell this line and then see the girl's reaction. In this forum only, Saumya is repeatedly called a grey Saumya whenever we talk about her but how many times we saw people calling Shivaay as grey Shivaay everyday no matter what wrong he does.

That has always been the trend that attracted high trps. We all admired the initial Annika from IB.
All shows portray women have to struggle to maintain their professional image (Diya Aur Bati Hum, Ishqbaaz, Dil Bole Oberoi) and its sad!
For Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, I feel the story changed when they moved it to 7.30pm to grab trp aunties' attention.
