Do you cringe when you see a document filled with misspelled words? Are you the friend that everyone asks to read over their projects before they send them out? Then this holiday is one for you! Proofreading Day is a day for everyone to slow down and read what they just typed for themselves. It is a day to have a goal of 100% accuracy for everything generated. Think you can do it?

History of Proofreading Day

In 2011, Judy Beaver created Proofreading Day in remembrance of her mother, Flo. On her website (nationalproofreadingday.com) Judy relates that her mother loved to correct people. She thought by creating the day on her mother's birthday it would be a fun way to remember her, and help people take more time to proof read their work!

Ms. Beaver has filled her website with links to many resources that relate to proofreading, but also for grammar as well. It is important to remember that when we write, we should use the rules of grammar instead of typing as if we are speaking. Professionals in all fields can set a bar of good writing by remembering this fact.

How to Celebrate Proofreading Day

For Proofreading Day, you can celebrate by thanking that friend or coworker that always reads over your documents! Show them how much you appreciate how they help you. Where would you be without their help? Make sure you do something to make the day more enjoyable for them. Let them know that their grammar skills are golden!

Perhaps this holiday recalls the teachers who have helped you through the years. Are you thankful for the teachers who are now helping your children to learn how to communicate properly instead of text-speak? Feel free to use this day to say thanks you with a handwritten, and properly worded note!

Want to celebrate in a big way? Take time to find grammar resources and brush up on your own skills. There are places all over the web where you can practice typing, spelling and grammar in fun activities. There are also guides to grammar that will help you to know which words to use at what time. Do you get tripped up by the common words like their and there? Use the resources to never choose the wrong one again!

If you are the proofreader of your job or group of friends, you need to take a moment to celebrate all that you do for others as well. You could let them all know that while you are taking a day to celebrate, they need to check their own work! Treat yourself to a new book, or another small gift that gives you joy. Even though you are the one always proofreading, you might want to take a chance to refresh your skills as well.

Thanks to Ms. Judy Beaver's mother Flo, there is a day that all of those who wear the title of "grammar police" proudly. English teachers across the world can be proud of their pupils who have taken their well-planned lessons to heart. Head out to the store and stock up on your red pencils so that you are ready for another year of proofreading!

If you or someone you know smoke cigarettes, you know that it is a very difficult thing to deal with. Cigarettes are highly addictive and harmful to the person who smokes then as well as the people around them. No Smoking Day aims to bring awareness to the dangers of this addiction. The day also tries to spotlight resources available to help people decide to try and quit.

History of No Smoking Day

No Smoking Day started out in 1984 and has grown in size and scope since then. It is celebrated in communities across the world trying to educate more people every year. Each year there is a new short them that can be used in advertising and media to help get the word out. One that many may remember was used in 2010 was "Break free". This theme was used with images of broken cigarettes encouraging smokers to try to break the chains of tobacco addiction.

Why is it so important to have a day set aside for this? Over the last few decades, it has become very clear how terribly dangerous smoking is. There are toxins in them that cause many different forms of cancer from the mouth to the lungs. What is also important to know is that while it may be a personal choice to smoke or not, when one smokes near another person -or even a pet - the second-hand smoke is just as dangerous to them. So, in fact, it really isn't just a personal decision. The protection of people who do not want to be effected by second-hand smoke has led to new laws in most communities that ban smoking in most public spaces.

How to Celebrate No Smoking Day

The best way you can celebrate No Smoking Day if you are a smoker is to take the opportunity to choose to quit. It may not be easy but it is clearly worth it as you will improve your health within hours and days of stopping. Of course, like anything having to do with your health you should consult your physician for advice on the best course of action for you personally. There are many options to support you once you make the choice to quit.

The day can be celebrated by those who are concerned about someone they love by offering them access to resources that can help. There are support groups, over the counter cessation aides, and phone numbers to people who can just talk to them. Most insurance companies have programs available now as well and would be happy to help. Be supportive in offering resources and you may find that this year will be the year that your loved one is ready to quit.

There is another way to celebrate and it is one that needs to be made a big deal of. That is for those who have quit! It is a great time to let them know you are proud of them and their continued status as a non-smoker. No matter how you choose to celebrate just make the leap of faith and go for it!

History of Peanut Cluster Day

Chocolate has been in recorded culinary history dating as far back as 1900 BC. It was usually used to make a drink that took the world by storm when Christopher Columbus brought it back to Spain with him in the 15th Century. The drink was all that was known until 1847 when Joseph Fry learned to make it moldable with the addition of cacao butter. It took just a matter of a few decades for chocolate to emerge into what we know it today. Chocolate lovers around the world can thank Mr. Fry for all the goodies that are consumed daily as he truly started the process!

Once the process to make chocolate into a solid was discovered, the addition of different ingredients wasn't far behind. Knowing that the blend of sweet and salty was a desired taste profile adding peanuts into the mix was a no brainer. Peanuts at this time were being grown and brought to market using steam power around the turn of the century. This lead to a greater number of people that could try this salty nut. It wasn't long before confectioners made the combination that is still sought after today.
