Lets talk about the judges : Sometimes, the judges have given higher weightage to Sur - this is why Jovita went out even though her performance was the best in PERFORMANCE round and sang with a lot of heart. However, Kumar Sanu comes in as judge and declares Rajeev as winner even though he is nowhere with his Sur but because he sang with "heart".

And now the mentors : Sometimes, the mentors have commented that the candidate didnt sing lend his own style to the singing. On one instance, one of the mentors (Aadesh or Jatin) remarked that the singer had xeroxed the original song and gave a thumbs-down to the singer. On other occasions, they have compared the candidates singing to the original song by saying "this is how Kishoreda had sung" or "This is how Rafi saab had sung" and hence conclude that candidate did not sing well. My point is that they cant have it both ways.

I hope Gajendra Singh realizes the folly here and helps create a lot more consistency in judgements in future shows.

I agree with you Deepak. Gajji needs to lay down the rules for all the judges in next round so that there can be some consistency.
Or better still, just get Shiv-Hari back :)

I agree with you music99 completely. I am not justifying Adesh's or Lalit's behavior but I fully understand their outbursts. The decisions in the third round of third phase were totally wrong and completely ridiculous. Lalit knows much more about music than Kumar Sanu.

Kumar Sanu is nowhere in the strature compared to J-L. So obviously Lalit had hard time accepting decision from him. SRGMP should make sure that they only call those people for judging who command high respect from the mentors -- like Pt. Jasraj, Shiv-ji, Hari-ji. Only then the mentors will have some confidence in their (judges) decisions.

Lets not forget that Sanu was not the only judge. Khayyam definitely had a hand in the decision too since he defended his decision on the first day and said straight out that since they've been called to judge, the decision should be left on them. So, its not all about Sanu and Lalit insulted Khayyam saaheb as well when he disagreed.
I know Khayyam has only given music in 50+ films but has composed some great songs. Some of those hits are from Kabhi Kabhi, Umrao Jaan, Shagun, FootPath, Phir Subah Hogi, Shola aur Shabnam (old one), Razia Sultan, Shankar Hussain, Dard, Noorie and he does have a lot of private albums. He's been in the industry since late 40s and I think that entitles him to some respect from the younger music directors.
All I'm saying is its not fair on the part of the mentors (and us) to just blame the judges. Its Gajji's fault for not outlining the criteria on which to judge the contestants. There's has been no standard set and everyone judges on their own set of points. The ultimate losers have been the singers and us (for not getting to hear them more). The music directors defintely are woking hard on their gharanas but the fights (I believe) are more about satisfying their egos and trying to project themselves as the best.
I've rambled on quite a bit now and dont know if it even makes any sense. At least I dont have to read this post now - I pity all of you who do read it 😆
