Top 20 Bollywood Movies on Television

2 min read

All the major films of 2016 have premiered on television, except the biggest blockbuster of the year - Aamir Khan's Dangal. We have the ratings of the other films and it's Salman Khan who yet again dominates the year, like he did with his 2015 release Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which premiered in February 2016.

Sultan managed to beat all films in 2016, both on the day it premiered as well as on the 6th repeat run when it garnered viewership in excess of 98 lakhs.

What remains to be seen is if Dangal will eventually beat Sultan. If it does manage to do that, it's then going to be about whether or not the film can beat Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which amassed more than 2 times the viewership of Sultan.

The 2015 Sooraj Barjatya family film set records with viewership of 2,51,19,000 (2.51 crore) - a record that it continues to hold inspite of other blockbusters hitting television screens.

The top star aside, the younger stars who are appearing in films that are catering to the masses and audience in smaller centres, have managed to make a mark in 2016. Tiger Shroff has two major hits - A Flying Jatt which failed at the box office, but was a blockbuster on television. The other film, Baaghi, did very well both at the box office and on TV.

The other star is Varun Dhawan who managed to take Dishoom to nearly 1 crore, which only three other films managed in 2016 / 2017.

Note: All films that were premiered and released in 2016 have been included. The Jungle Book was one of the most watched films of 2016 too, with viewership of 75,51,000, but since it isn't from Bollywood or the Hindi Film Industry, we haven't included it in the list.

Points to be noted
14-20 seems to cater to educated people , specifically graduate level I suppose . So yes viewership would be less but this does not mean that PRDP is far better movie in comparision to PINK .

Secondly, box office collection is not the basis of a better movie as moonlight won the best pictures where as superman vs batman was not even nominated .
These teo types of movies cater to differrnt types of audience , whats there to laugh about I do not get , seems like BOI type rant in which it cries about europeon directors. The site's work is to put up numbers and those also it keeps in changing from time to time . It seems to cannot do its primary work properly and talks about running a business which is a distant dream for them at the moment.

That's the key, if they are successful, why can't they even get a decent audience back home.

All films 14-20:

1. Praised to sky as films never seen before.

2. WOM Meter touching next planet.

3. Media going bonkers for them.

4. Awards / Ratings all shoot up to sky.

hua kya ghar pe... No one even gace them 1 chance... They r successful coz of controlled budget & high end plexes ticket rates saving their case from failure verdict.

Flying Jat is No 3 on TV
ADHM is No 17 !!!

I would prefer to be at bottom TV ratings and be successful on BO than other way round.

If TV is criteria of taste of Indian audience, Naagin's Mouni Roy should be India's most famous personality and Naag most loved animal👏

So? What are you trying to say? that these movies should not be made?btw ADHM is not an art movie, not even close...it has enough enough commercial elements...it's not even considered a good commercial movie by many.
I am not even sure if neerja can be considered an art movie...yes it seems better and more real than biopics like mary kom...it is closer to a 'biopic' than mary kom is...but whatever it is...artsy or commercial...it was a successful movie, right? there are many movies like neerja which do not have typical commercial elements and still these go on to become successes...so no way more such movies are going to be stopped from being made.

Why should people like me who have not much interest in salman's or prabhu deva's masala films with female objectification suffer? I am not trying to be pseudo or pretentious here...I like commercial movies too...main hoon na for instance...and I don't judge people who majorly like commercial movies(though I wish they at least had an opinion on the female objectification part of it)...it's all about tastes...my friend laughed and laughed while watching kick while I barely chuckled at any of the jokes...I do not think of her as inferior just because of this.So if you have a problem with audience of artsy movies looking down upon people who like commercial stuff than you and people like farah khan need to understand that respect is a two way street...not everybody who claims to like a movie by anurag kashyap or any other such director is pretentious or pseudo or condescending or something...may be they actually like these movies without judging others' choices.

and what if multiplexes have high rates? no body is forcing anybody to watch these movies at high rates?people are WILLING to watch these movies at the prevailing rates...and controlled budget is just good economics dude...don't tell me you have a problem with that too😆
