I had mentioned about the same show in this (or IB) forum a few days back the woman got a PG into their house so that he could double as house help for them, two girls sharing their flat with a guy is something no producer will show today

It was not just that even cult show Hum Log had Majhli who decided to work for media industry back in 84-85 and despite the opposite of her family (only her dad supported her)

The woman then took decisions on their own unlike now when they work only because they have become penniless

Later during our childhood we had shows like Baat ban jaaye, kitty party, Tara etc. Which showed working woman, even Ekta's girls were often working, yes they quit after marriage but they didn't work only because they wanted money but because their job have them creative satisfaction

That is why I am saying that regressive tracks and doormat heroines is not the choice of TRP aunties but probably of this generation

Being new to Indian TV I never saw the shows you mention. I watched mostly western shows growing up and looked up to some of the women I saw as role models. Now looking back as a young kid or a Teen, I aspired to be like some of them. Like Dr Scully in X-Files. I thought she was the coolest. She was educated, smart brave and no man's fool. But at the same time she had a softer side and she was madly in love with Agent Molder. Same goes for Dr Brennan and Agent Booth from Bones.

This shows that being a strong woman does not mean you are incapable of being a fool in love. But you won't look like a doormat while doing it. Neither does it require you to just let everyone and anyone walk all over you or talk down to you to show you respect people. I don't know where these notions come from. But maybe you are right, it's a generation thing and not the fault of TRP aunties. Maybe it is the younger generation that like to see women take any crap and stay with a guy and call that "selfless true love" or whatever.

I wish they showed a woman stand up for herself and STILL have a great love story with a hot guy. He can even have a bad attitude, I dont mind that. As long as she doesn't become his victim or his bakht and take anything from him. Even in the case of Gauri and Omkara, I understand why she is taken with him. He saved her from an angry mob, when he didnt actually have to, and people have fallen for someone for less than that. Especially when she knows he thinks she was actually involved with KT. So what he did was a big deal and she cant forget that. Up to THAT point I get it. But I dont want her to be some loser who is ready to fall at his feet. Have some self-respect girl. The man rejected you. So grow a spine and dont take crap from him! I hope she is shown to at least have some self worth! Not just for a few weeks until she realises she "Loves" Omkara and then she just becomes a sad shadow of her former self!

I fail to understand why a Female lead needs to be downtrodden or a servant to be the FL in Gul's shows? Zoya was educated, but never did a day's work! She talked of what she will do when she gets a job? But all I saw her doing was her thoring mufat ki roti in Asad's house as their house guest and then became Ayaan's temporary wife and then Asad's permanent wife. At least Saumya was spared from being a servant just like Zoya was.

None of these women ever used their skills properly. Just having education on certificates is not enough, what are you using it for? These women are anything but role models for younger females. Growing up my favorite female character was Dr Dana Scully from the X-Files. She was educated, smart and independent. A respected scientist who became an FBI agent. Of course she fell in love with Moulder and he with her. I loved that part too. But I loved her and wanted to be like her. I had no exposure to Indian TV as a kid, as I am not Indian. But I suppose the shows from that time are not as bad as now.

It's shocking that today, young girl's watching Indian TV shows like this, would only get to see girl's who work as employees of ML's and then put up with their harassment and judgment and continue to stay with these guys. That is called "Takkar Ki Ishqbaazi!" I rest my case!

This irks me to no end. There really seems to be no other careers for Gul's FL's except for the ones that have been mentioned above. And like you pointed out, in the end, they all end up being called naukar/servant.

@ bold - The FL's are shown to get belittled for being naukar (mainly by the ML's family) and get harrassed and ill-treated by their ML's only to stay back and act as a human punching bag for them and, shockingly, fall in love with the ML in the process. I really don't understand what kind of a twisted message they're trying to send here.
