When Bollywood is busy trying to ape Hollywood with over complicated story line and hard to relate characters , a sweet Bollywood style musical with white stars won its female star and director Oscar along with few other awards...

Should Bollywood go back to its roots and stop trying to complicate everything and be what it should do in first place... Be Indian and reach out to audience and their emotion. 😳

SHOULD BOLLYWOOD START ACTING LIKE IT IS A INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY AND START TELLING RELATABLE STORY... 😃

Yes, get back to making Chitchor and Golmaal ( original)
Get back to Indian stories, Indian emotions.
But BW writers have to be LA returned !! Without good writers, how are you going to get original stories?
Invest in Indian writers.

LOL maybe BW has gotten tired of its same old and HW has gotten tired of its respective same old. Doing new things within their own realm that happen to be what the other one was doing.
BW movies however, were hardly relatable, esp if we dig deep and find all these crazy villains that are just trying to kill you and your lover, or the rich daddies separating 2 star crossed lovers 😆. I do appreciate some of the newer films they've been coming out with that bring attention to a lot of the societal issues these days like Pink, Udta, K&S, Kahaani 2. When I watched trailers for these movies I was super intrigued and wanted to really watch them, where as for the typical romcoms it was more like eh if i get to it, i get to it, if not I'm not missing out on anything.

I have always thought emotions is what bollywood does best. Even though for Hollywood critics it is overboard, I think that's what makes indian movies... essentially indian movies.
I would watch the early 2000/late 90s movies hundred times over because they had simple characterization but straight forward stories and there were emotions involved all the way through.

@bold: That part I definitely did not appreciate. 😆 and I also love the stories on societal issues. But what I really MISS is family drama sort of movies. The classics like HAHK, HSSH, and even the more recent KKKG. Even the romances like KKHH. Just good old family dramas. I really need them back. 😭

^^ I will admit, I still watch HSSH, KKHH and KKKG on a regular basis. Those will forever be classics. Though I don't think any of the current set of actors are good enough to do these kinds of family movies, I just can't imagine them in any of them, unless we plan on using SK and SRK

that's the pity

some producers have really changed the intellectual of one generation

from productive cinema to skin show it has become...

there were days were art cinema, pan india cinema, commercial cinema survived in tandem...

i hardly see now

I love a full on traditional BW movie when it's done well but who does it well anymore? I can remember the first time I saw DDLJ, I was very young but even so I knew there were plot holes and I was being emotionally manipulated, but I suspended disbelief and happily cried, cheered, and laughed when I was supposed to anyway because it felt like a real story about characters I cared about, sincerely made to entertainment not just to earn some cash. Now so many "commercial" films feel like they are completely without heart and just a list of ingredients thrown together: romance, check, comedy, check, item number, check.
BW needs better stories and less emphasis on collections. If they cared less about the money and more about the storytelling, money would naturally follow.
