I agree with you here. In trying to be more global in its approach, BW has lost that connect with the Indian audiences. That is why most of the movies today underperform. The simplicity and soul is simply missing.
BW is making movies either for the numbers or to ape HW and appeal to a global audience. đŸ„±

Should Bollywood go back to its roots and stop trying to complicate everything and be what it should do in first place... Be Indian and reach out to audience and their emotion. 😳

SHOULD BOLLYWOOD START ACTING LIKE IT IS A INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY AND START TELLING RELATABLE STORY... 😃

But I like the progress Bollywood movies has made from the typical boy meets girl love stories. Movies like Wake Up Sid, Queen, Piku, English Vinglish, Pink, 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par are more relatable to my actual life than movies like KKHH, K3G, DTPH, Devdas.

It isn't so bad if you think of how the stories are getting better though. It might seem they are trying to copy Hollywood, but in fact, I think Bollywood has better stories. I can't think of a really good Hollywood film I have watched in a looong time.
The want to reach a bigger audience is also there too I think. Bollywood isn't just watched in India so maybe they want to reach out and seem relatable to other viewers but with the desi flare. 😆

Good one 😆 Haven't seen La la land but going by the trailer, I didn't expect it to be Oscar worthy if you know what I mean

There are many movies in recent times which have relatable stories and also provide entertainment like Queen, Piku, English Vinglish, Dangal, Sultan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK, Vicky Donor, TWM, TWMR. All these movies don't have a complicated story, provide good entertainment and are also relatable because of being Indian in heart. I'll say that Kapoor and Sons is a better family drama than HAHK, K3G and HSSH because it is more relatable and makes me connect with the characters. Also the movie is entertaining. Movies like DDLJ and KKHH are very entertaining movies but they are too unrealistic to make me connect with the characters.

It's true that directors have started exploring different genres with complicated storylines but it is bcoz people have started demanding more content based movies. Without demand, there is no supply.
