Rangoon Has Very Poor Start

Rangoon has taken a very poor start of around 10-15% on the morning shows. It was not expected to start well as these sorts find it tough and on top there is a director like Vishal Bharadwaj where the youth audience in big cities is aware what sort of cinema he makes (smaller centres and single screens audience are probably not aware but the film is not for them anyway) and on top a cast like Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranuat and Saif Ali Khan who need far better promos and music to bring in an audience as even combined the box office clout is limited. Still even allowing for this the opening is even lower than what one would have expected.

There is a holiday for Mahashivratri in parts of the country and that may help collections somewhat and with such a low start and on top a film which is not really for the morning audience the collections are going to improve as the day goes along but the fear is if the improvement if the expected improvement does not come then the first day may turn out to be a bit of a shocker. The film has to reach double digits on Saturday or Sunday (preferably Saturday) but that looks very on this opening.

The other films released this Friday 9' O Clock, Mona Darling and Wedding Anniversary have gone the way as these non awareness film nearly always go and that is zero audience.

Was expecting this. The promos and songs didn't generate any buzz.
Hope it's not a disaster at least. Want the film to work for Kangana!

Shahid, Kangana and Saif's Rangoon starts off on a disastrous note with just 10 per cent occupancy in the morning shows

Ab yahaan se toh film will sink to the bottom of Mariana's trench

This kind of film only manage to recover investments, that too only when the WOM is super..

Yahaan toh critics review and public WOM dono below average lag rahe hai..

Now, we just have to wait and see if it manages to dethrone BV as the biggest disaster.

PS- Got nothing against the film. Infact I admire VB and wanted this to work for him.

filmmakers plz give importance to music
good music will always do wonders.
we've seen many weak films getting good opening
because of good songs. this film lacked great songs.
blame also goes to producers for overindulging directors.
VB is a brilliant filmmaker but his films are not BO winners.
his films rely completely on WOM for BO
directors like him can't afford to spend too much
or deliver anything less than A+ to get great reviews.
the reviews so far are mixed which is the scariest part.
same mistake fox did by giving that budget to kashyap for BV. sajid also made same mistakes by financing
ambitious & risky projects of directors like VB & imtiaz,
who are not good at satisfying all kinds of audience.
they are better when they have tighter budget.

I don't think music makes too much difference like it used to five years back. People watch videos in top quality on YouTube and don't watch films for songs. That's why Kaala Chashma and Hamma did nothing for the opening day figures.

Music was pretty decent in Rangoon. Yeh Ishq is a very good song. But did not get the rquired hype. But if movie is good then music hardly matters. Piku & Neerja also had decent music but WOM of good content spread and both went on to become successful.

Also this time probably Kangu got too much involved and changed stuffs as she said she does not agree to the director's decisions.

Uh oh. That's bad news.
The promos and songs had a very low buzz from the start. The reviews are mixed too. The only hope as of now for the movie will be a positive WOM but that too seems difficult. Jolly LLB 2 will give a tough competition over the weekend.
