TRPs and how they work?

Now I am not an expert on TRPs but I know enough to tell that most of them on this forum have got it wrong!

BARC stands for Broadcast Audience Research Council (India). Research is the key word here! A particular research agency undertakes the job of finding out the preference of television audience on behalf of the channel & advertisers. As the TRP decides channel's revenue via Ad slots.

If you guys have worked on your college Dissertations/Research papers you would know how important samples are for data collection, in the same way samples are chosen by BARC. Approximately 20,000 households are chosen out of the 150 million in India with an increase by 10,000 each year until it reaches 50,000. Out of this 30% are rural population (By default). And this is no manual research where questionnaires are distributed or Interviews are conducted etc. to find out who is tuning into which channel at what time or to see whose face?

They do it by audio watermarking.

TV usage measurements and viewing data collection is enabled by the use of two digital devices, one installed by the broadcaster (Embedder) at station head end/transmission site(s) and the other device, the BAR-O-Meter is installed on each TV set in the panel household. The point I am trying to make here is they have a sample size of households ranging from 20-50K, they obtain permission from the said households before installing the BAR-O-Meter, your household may or may not be one of them only you would know. Therefore if you think by switching off your TV for a week because your favourite is not there & think that it's going to impact the ratings then you are just kidding yourself! This goes for Vitharv as well! They did manage to create an impact by themselves on a new Time-slot despite being relatively new as leads in a popular GEC for the first time! They earned that 0.6-0.7 from the said sample size on their own! But tomorrow if Vitharv were to separate there would still be fraction of the audience watching it for drama.

Therefore this is just helpful post to fans who religiously switch on their TV at 5:30 PM to contribute to TRPs and those who switch it off because they don't want to contribute as they are pissed with the track! Unless and until you are a part of the sample population whether you watch it at 5:30 or not makes no difference to BARC ratings. Their accuracy is accepted by the channels and also supported by the Advertising agencies association of India.

Before you go around making loud claims about How & Where the TRPs come otherwise you are just going make yourself come across as fool!

Trust me the sooner they get rid of the dead duck triangle and concentrate on their original leads the trps will go up more. Anyways ravish entry couldn't come in between vitharv he played more of a supporting role between them. It's been 5 months what he did worthwhile ?
