I prefer to be traditional ji in basically all aspects. I wear traditional clothing more than I do western, western being only for university. When I get home I change into Indian wear. Thinking wise, I'm traditional, I try to follow the Indian culture more than I follow the western ji.

I believe in it's really eazy being modern in a modernized world, but it's very hard to be traditional in it. I love Indian History, and I think it has so much culture to it ji. I don't know about other places, but here if you are in a public place with people your age, or younger, you are expected to talk to them in English, and if you talk in Punjabi you get told speak in Punjabi. I find it really annoying ji, and this is why I respect the Chinese/Japanese cultures so much. They are immensely proud of their culture and to keep their culture alive they talk only in their language irrespective of where there are ji.

With desis, most that I know(excluding online), are so ashamed of the culture and try everything to be so westernized. You should be proud of your roots and where you came from ji. It was India which gave the world culture and class, and if you love this class then love the culture you come from ji. For me it's really important to stay with my roots b/c unfortunetly my generation of people are losing the culture that has been preserved for so long. Ask anyone now any question of our culture and most will not even have heard it ji. They get so entangled into the web of western culture, that they've forgotten what culture they came from ji.

In Thinking traditionally na, I mean by respecting the days, and in upbringings. If I have kids, I'd make it my buisness to speak only in Punjabi/Hindi to them, and avoid English very much ji. In my household, we were only talked to in Punjabi, and I got my English, I had no problem in school, and now I'm in biomedical. I hate it when parents go oh we want them to be ready for school ji, so we talk in English with them. And for thinking traditionally I don't mean the partiality b/w genders, or what society is today. It's wrong to say that the culture alwayz has been like the way it is today, b/c it's only been like this for the past 400-500 years, out of the 5000 years of Indian history ji.

You don't need to wear traditional clothing to be traditional or stay connected to your roots, but you shouldn't be ashamed of what you are ji. I speak in Punjabi everywhere, and with my brother as well. It's like we both know English so lets stick with Punjabi. I can go to malls in Indian wear, and my cousins hate that. But I really don't give a damn, if you have a problem with me then say it to my face rather than telling others. Haye, for my attittude I've gotten in so much trouble in India with everyone ranging from the teachers to gundas lol.

I am what I am ji, and I'm Punjabi! Please don't take this personally, all my views, and no one needs to waste energy on me with their anger ji. It's not aimed at you b/c 1) I dont know any of you, and 2) I don't come to your houses to see if you are traditional or not. These are just my views, and I'm not sure I make any sense ji b/c I have a lab to get to.

Don't take panga with me varna kardoongi naanga(my mamaji taught me this when I was 3!😆)😳

well we are punjabis na... soo we should respect our clothing even tho we live in a westernise world... its really good that people still wear them... and its better to be tradiitonal thinking than modern... i think ji... sticking to the roots.

I soo agree with u its really easy to become modern... yea they would expect coz ur from the west na... its always good to speak punjabi at all times.. i wish most indian people had that same sooch... as chinese/japanese.... i know i have noticed myself in uni that they always speak in their language and they dont care about what people may think... yes they are proud thats what is sooo different with many indian people... they seem ashamed to speak in punjabi hindi etc.....

Well said ji should always be proud of the roots where u have come from the culture sab kuj.... i have found that with my friends and online ones tooo... it is vital that the culture is not lost becuase what will the next generation be like... becuase the future parents will probs speak english all the time and teach their kids english tooo therefore will not learn their language... i think ji it is important to teach ur child apni boli before teaching english or what ever... because it is easy to pick up as a child... and they should know it anyways... about the history people should know about it... at some point may have been told but has been forgotten... i myself am not perfect in that sense but i try too keep a positive understanding... in the punjabi culture more i think.. even remember stories told when i was small an mahabarat etc which i was really fond of... when i was small but jado chote hein they dont really have that same understanding as when ur older an should gain the history....agian...

hayeeeeee ur sooo right people should have the same thinking here... bachcheyan nu jaanam zarooori hain... and if u me can learn punjabi first then why cant others learn... an yes i think that is stupid what some parents think they should be really good at english sooo they should learn english first but then will never learn apni boli... the way the worlds going on now yea... the culture somewhat will come to an end for majority of people... of their way of thinking... its time people really think about their culture seriously... and we have to talk in english coz they wont understand na... but when i was at skool in punjabi class na... we always had to speak in punjabi jawaab ve punjabi vich if we needed to goo out the class woh vi punjabi vich bolni pendi si... i mean it was really nice i thought coz it felt like being home for one... 😛

true say.... i mean je sara din skool vich english de galaan karde ya an then go home an speak english as well fir punjabi taan pul jaani na... its really good that u speak punjabi with ur brother even tho u live... with me most of the time my sisters speak in english i reply in punjabi sometimes sometimes english... with my little sisters i always dooo its cute to talk in punjabi and hearing them also.. i always say that u lot never talk in punjabi... mere naal gallan naal karo... but most of all mummy ji is always here soo i can speak to her in punjabi sare time... haye je tere naal problem hai... i dont want chitter or jhoothe ji lol... but yes i know what u mean... 😛

hayeeeeeee saachi gal ya... always be proud to be who u are...and never change urself for any person... ur views are really good saachi... 😛
