This year we have several professional singers, who sing for movies as contestants -

Maalavika
Revanth
Tajinder
Rohit

I believe even Shravan sings professionally but I'm not very sure.
To this I'm not adding singers like Mansi, Manya, mohit who do stage shows.

Why do they only talk about Revanth being a professional playback singer? Infact Maalavika has sung over 250 Tamil songs.

You tend to expect more from experienced singers. By only highlighting one aren't you putting more pressure on him while the others have lesser pressure?

Also, what are your thoughts on professional singers with quite a bit of experience participating in this show? I know Hindi may not be some of their language, but still don't they have an edge over others?

Tajinder has sung the opening of a Sonu nigam song, and here sonu nigam is a judge. Isn't this a case of conflict of interest?

Maalavika hasn't sung 250 songs. I think she sang less than 20 songs. She is not an established play back singer in Tamil film industry. I've read somewhere it was mentioned that she sang 250 songs which is wrong.
Shravan is not a play back singer. But he tours around (even abroad) for concerts and stage performances. Malavika does that too.

As far as Tajinder is concerned, Sonu N is very professional and I believe there won't be any partiality or paradox from his side. I never found him favoring anyone.. Or like Anu and Farah he never says 'I love you' crap to anybody.

If not professional singers, all these participants are well experienced in performing live, having been the participants on other music reality shows. They are already exposed to different kind of music, hence it does not matter whether they are play back singers or not.

For me those who already got a break as a playback singer shouldn't participate.

I was against anandh winning super singer on star vijay for the same reason, and also for the reason that good looks wins over talent like rajaganapathy.

I don't know why singers like revanth looking for Bollywood opportunities when he has a big blockbuster movie bahubali as his portfolio. In fact, tbh I became judgmental after knowing abt that as I feel it could be an advantage/reason of him getting into the top 14.

I don't know about malavika, I read she got a break but not sure which song, I guess not so popular and even santosh hariharan too has sung in a couple of movies.

Shravan is yet to get a break, he gets heap of praises from all legends from sp bala to sonu nigam but it all ends there. Hope he gets a break soon, that's more important than winning Indian idol.

Most of the participants have some experience singing in mega shows or playback singing. I actually prefer the mentor mentee concept where you nurture the young talents and polish them.

Having said that I completely understand it's unfair to judge people based on such things, but this is what I feel.

Btw, What is the total prize money For Indian idol?

Exactly for singers who've already done playback, it's relatively easy to bag Bollywood offers than someone who hasn't had a break.
I know even South Indian singers find it difficult to break into Bollywood but I'm talking about relativity here.
I agree with the mentor concept. These shows should give opportunities to those who may not be able to make it big otherwise.

I don't completely agree that established playback singers should not participate in shows like Indian Idol. By that logic, one shouldn' t allow classical trained singers like Shravan and Rohit to compete against natural ones like Khudabaksh or Manya. That's kinda like saying star kids have it easier in Bollywood than an outsider looking to break in. Yes, perhaps getting the first big break maybe easier but only talent is going to let you ride ahead. And sometimes, being established may work against you. I know that I probably judge Revanth at a slightly higher standard (was not aware that Malvika, Tajinder etc has also sung playback) than the others, since I would expect his experience to enable him to perform better.
Same in the case of Shravan/ Rohit Vs Khudabaksh. I believe that training in classical does confer an edge over an untrained voice, but that's not to say that an untrained voice cannot be Indian Idol (the reverse is likely going to be true) Even if you look at yesteryear's playback singers..Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar, Kishoreda had had no professional training, but he rose to such heights of popularity because of his voice.
I think these days, everyone has a place in playback singing because of the genres of songs being composed, different voices are likely to be heard. Like we have Sonu Nigam and Shaan at the same time as Kailash Kher and Sukhvinder Singh.
Bollywood is a different ballgame than Tollywood and Revanth's experience may or may not have gotten him a break in Bollywood, but his appearing on Indian Idol certainly would. Same in the case of any of the other contestants. So yeah, what everyone keeps harping on that Indian Idol is a platform,,blah blah blah, seems to be true. Rohit got his break after someone heard him on Indian Idol, right? So why shouldn't others be given a chance to be heard by all of India (esp Bollywood) and get their ticket to fame?

Not really..on the contrary I feel it's good to hav trained/ experienced Singers as it raises the bar of the show. As for opportunities, only a handful of ppl from Idol got a chance in BW hence participation or even winning doesn't guarantee anything. Besides, none of the contestants are perfect, they all hav something to work on so I think it's a fair competition.
