For a show called Swabhimaan...

... which always highlights the worth of self-respect, very few characters have that Swabhimaan. Sharda (whom I really liked) is shown so helpless. Meghna (one of my fav's other than Karan) is one character who actually has the back bone to call out the wrongdoings. She may be impulsive and short tempered (comparatively) but at least she knows what's wrong and how NK had made Sharda beg not request.
As much as I loved NaiRan getting married, I still don't buy Karan's reason to marry Naina. He is good-hearted but not that great that he would readily sacrifice his wishes by marrying a girl, esp one chosen/arm-twisted by NK, someone he despises.

I guess, it highlights the difference between Abhimaan and Swabhimaan. Swabhimaan doesn't necessarily mean one wouldn't compromise in a certain situation.
Abhimaan, yes, no give in that equation. NK and Sandhya, they are prime example, they have no Swabhimaan, they are only full of hot air.

As for Karan, he is a good guy. Everything happened in front of his eyes. He knows why Naina agreed and even though he was distressed he still thought about Sharda aunty and his Meghna bhabhi and Kunal bhai.

The fact that he doesn't speak up in front of his Dad is being used mercilessly against him.

I love NaiRan and fingers crossed that we get awesome scenes.

Like Namita said...I guess it highlights the difference. To be able to understand one, you have to understand the other.
NK and Sandhya's abhimaan Vs Meghna/Naina/Sharda's Swabhimaan.

This 😆 I think this fact is still not that clear for many? I mean, yes, one of the reasons for Karan to budge was what he had seen with his own eyes what his father did, and the fact that he had been cornered after Naina agreed. He is good-hearted and felt bad for the others and didn't particularly enjoy the thought that they might suffer because of him - it's natural and very human.

But another reason, maybe even a bigger one or equally as big is Karan's equation with NK. Karan cannot speak up in front of NK. Maybe it's difficult to reconcile this bit of information with the fact that Karan dislikes NK greatly and does not favor his father's ideologies and ways (it's not for me but might be for others). But this is what we have been shown from the beginning: him avoiding NK. Retreating from a room when NK is in there. Never opening his mouth in front of NK even if he is burning to. In the past, he might have rejected things NK wanted for him by simply not doing them and avoiding NK. But here, he cannot avoid - he is cornered. And NK's mercilessly using this weakness of Karan's against him to make him budge, which he successfully did.

It's a mix of Karan empathising with Meghna, Sharda and especially Kunal - and of psychological factors, e.g. his inability to stand up to NK.

As for the show titled Swabhiman: I believe it has to be seen in different lights. The show will be about the different understanding of Swabhiman - ideologies. What is swabhiman and what is abhiman? When are lines blurred? Hence, why we see some characters stand for this and others for that. Furthermore, the show is also about a mother losing her swabhiman and her daughters trying to restore it. Meghna said it, the Chauhans didn't just insult her mother's swabhiman, "uski dhajjiya udda diya" - so, yes, in that context, we had to see Sharda losing her swabhiman for this. And there's more to come, I guess 😆

I also think that Karan feels that there is no point fighting. His dad always gets what he wants when Dadu is not around.

The way I would see it is that there are battles and there are wars. Abhimaan demands winning every battle and may be losing the war. Whereas Swabhimaan is knowing that not every battle is worth fighting and winning, and focusing on the important ones so that the war is won.

Everyone in the show got their own definition of swabhimaan.

Meghna : according to meghna , don't beg when you are not wrong. Don't bear injustice ,stand up for truth then no matter what who is infront of you be it your husband,in laws or anyone. She doesn't afraid of speaking truth nor feels ashamed to accept if she feels she is guilty. And when she is right she doesn't bend down.

Naina: what i noticed is for her self-respect doesn't matter. She believes in bending down if things can get better by this way then no matter that thing is wrong or right.

Sharda : she is combination of Meghna & Naina that's all i can say.

And the irony is those who could have stand up for their siblings had been bounded by kasam & love

In between all this where the heck is so called swabhimaan ? All i see pride winning over self-respect. Evil winning over good. Injustice winning over justice.

Swabhimaan nahin abhimaan hona chahiye tha show ka naam 😆

NK and Sandhya have abhimann - ego not swabhimaan, esp NK. Sandhya I feel is mainly following orders and showing her loyalty to NK. NK is too full of himself.

@bold - I guess that makes sense. Karan's a straight person. He doesn't know manipulation etc so that's being used against him but still I thought he would show some kind of resistance. He's maarying Naina whom he doesn't love infact hates at the moment + he is against people getting close to him - which I know Naina will change.

But yeah, the best thing is NaiRan is officially together. Have been shipping them since Karan entered. <3

NK and Sandhya's abhimaan Vs Meghna/Naina/Sharda's Swabhimaan.

True NK and Sandhya's abhimaan vs (for the moment) Meghna's swabhimaan. I had high hopes from Sharda (I liked her character initially - the way she refused to take money from her brothers, the loan she took with interest from her brother-in-law etc) but after seeing her so helpless in the past couple of episodes I am not feeling that great about the character.

PS: I love Neha Sargam esp in her Chand Chupa days. Your dp reminds me of Nivi and Viren :)
