Following the contrasting views of people calling Ravish or Atharv the bigger victim I want to talk about the person who has actually lost everything in this, Vividha. The girl who hasn't said a single word about her suffering, the girl who has taken everything in her stride and made decisions to make the best out of the situations that were presented to her. The girl who deserved better than public humiliation for ending her marriage.
Ravish treated Vividha as a possession, pure and simple. She never belonged' to him, so here Atharv have her back. He removed her jewellery, wiped her sindoor and put her hand in Atharv's, giving great big dialogues telling Atharv about ViTharv's love, something I'm sure Atharv understands way better than Ravish ever could. In front of the whole family he decides to do this handing over' process, without an ounce of respect for her, and with a smug smile I would happily punch off his face. I also didn't like the radio silence as Atharv just watched the events unfold in front of him, but I'm not sure what I wanted him to do.
The worst part about this scene wasn't what happened, rather that he didn't give Vividha or Atharv the opportunity to speak. Through his actions he made Vividha feel as if she had committed a sin. You could see it in her expressions, she lost respect for herself through this process. As a final nail in the coffin she lost herself. She lost her father, her sister, the man she loves, her dreams, everything - and finally she lost her sense of self-worth. She has done nothing but be proud of her love, and the same man who is her soul threw accusations at her in anger. The man who understands her more than anyone misunderstood her. The right to choice is a human right, her choice was against this marriage and she was well within her rights to end it on her terms, and Ravish once again took her right from her in the interests of being mahaan'. Vividha should not be shamed' or disgraced for wanting to get out of a forced marriage, she should have the confidence to hand over the mangalsutra to him herself, but he, Kailash and the Vashishts + Sujata have chipped away and destroyed the self-confidence she had.
ViTharv have a hurdle, a massive hurdle they have to overcome now. We saw hints of it at the end of that infuriating scene, Atharv saw she wasn't happy. Ravish may have told her she's free now but she feels weighed down by guilt and the expectations society had of her, and Atharv isn't reassuring her that she was right. She is a strong character, she follows her heart and Atharv helped bring these qualities out of her. But now he faces a new challenge, he has to conquer his anger at what he's lost but also understand Vividha's sentiments. He has to talk to her, he has to rebuild that trust. There was a hint of it in the precap, where he's trying to return to normalcy by giving her the leaves for the pooja and sees Vividha stop herself before applying the sindoor. They can't ignore the elephant in the room, they have to conquer it together.
