Nowadays, it seems that hit music does not lead to even a good opening, let alone a hit film. Hamma Hamma did not help OK Jaanu and Kaala Chashma did not help BBD.
However, there used to be a time when hit music was considered crucial to a film doing well, especially for the romance genre.Do you think that releasing full songs/videos on Youtube well before the release date as a part of promotions actually does more damage than good? If a person can watch a video in top quality again and again on demand, why would he bother to watch the film to watch the songs?Didn't Dhoom 3 release full song videos after release? I wonder if that made a difference.

Are they really releasing full "video" song as in the movie prior to release or just playing a few exclusive song scenes and repeating the other scenes from the trailer??I'll take Rangoon for recent example. The videos are 3 mins long... they have skipped a para or two. And they keep showing exclusive "scenes" from the movie in the background.I personally think... they can show the songs on YT as long as they don't repeat it again in theatres, or keep an abbreviated version in the movie. This way the focus is on the movie and plotline. People are looking for shorter lengths film these days. But yeah... if there is no plotline, then releasing all "video" songs is detrimental. 😆
