Lovely episodes this week. Better pace, & editing. Much better CVs. Keep it this way.
There are just so many things to appreciate about this show - right from the heartwarming relationships to the characters. But today, I want to speak about Mehek. She was a meek girl with a phobia; one who ran away from the sight of anything that scared her. Her only strength that she constantly made use of & was aware of, be it a sad moment, or a happy moment, was cooking. Her life was limited to her family & her mum's recipe books. But with Shaurya's entry into her life, it has been a delight to watch her grow & become more than just a girl who loves to cook & feed everyone.
Shaurya stormed into her life, exposing her to a life beyond family & friends for the first time. It was the first time her only talent & passion was questioned. Despite her initial hesitation, she joined ISC for her Kanta Chachi who she loved dearly & was thankful to. And for the first time she realised that she had to fight for herself & for her family. Pure talent wasn't enough for this world which daunted her. As the rounds progressed, Shaurya intimidated her both physically & mentally, for his own ego which she constantly provoked & smashed. Not only did she learn to confront her fears & fight for what mattered to her, she also grew into an independent person. She was able to look Shaurya in the eye & able to call him out for his wrongs, & also apologize for her own wrongs. Cooking, too, changed its role in her life. It was no longer just a passion or a hobby through which she felt close to her loved ones, it became an aspiration; it empowered her & gave her the wings to fly. She experienced ambition in that she wanted to win the competition (beyond just getting back at Shaurya) for herself & for further growth. That gave her the strength to speak up as an individual & do what she truly wanted for the first time - leave for the Agra round despite her family's disapproval & she did just that.
When Shaurya started expressing his interest in her, it confused her & baffled her. The naive girl who was once unaware of a man's inappropriate touch (Shaurya placing his hand on her shoulder the first time), was wary of his initial advances. She became aware of him. She was no longer as innocent & realised that they were attracted to each other, & was even the first to confess her love. Alas, she was not allowed to relish those emotions for long & was confronted with the reality of how different their worlds were. She pushed him away time & time again but this time, it wasn't her lack of courage that caused her to react that way. She thought practically for the first time & was courageous enough to take the hard decision for her family & for them. She stood up & took ownership of her relationship & made her decision, much to the disapproval of her family members, emerging as an individual with her own choice & right to live her life the way she wanted. Meek Mehek who was willing to marry Ajay for her family had only emerged tougher & braver.
However, she realised the value of Shaurya once he was no longer part of her life & ran to make amends, declaring her love for him infront of everyone. Since the various wedding preparations & functions, difficulties have come time & time again. She has been sad & upset, but not once, did she speak of leaving Shaurya because she's finally learnt to lean on him, & trust him. She believed in him, followed his lead when blindfolded & gave him his first kiss, despite her apprehensions not just because he wanted it, but because she finally found the much needed courage to go for it. As her house was being burnt, her fears seemed to be coming to front but as she watched Shaurya jump into the fire, it gave her the much needed push & courage to leave all behind & jump in because of him, for him. Unlike the rest of the family, she jumped in fearlessly, to save what mattered to her. She did the same today by pouring water over a 'burning' Shruti to save & fight for Shaurya, despite knowing that Shruti is her bhabhi & that they would be living in one house together. The girl who was sweetly requesting Shaurya not to kick his family out, kicked Shruti out of her territory & her room today. Doe-eyed Mehek who would blush at the very sight of Shaurya or his physical proximity, poured water over him & claimed her right on him possessively.
Really appreciate the growth we've seen in Mehek & I hope we get to see more shades of her, post marriage, especially with their trust constantly put to test (lack of love is not an option, hehe).
