Balaji Telefilms is embroiled in controversy yet again as the Vaishnav Samaj raises objection over a dialogue in Kyunki… but Ekta is willing to apologise

Kunal M Shah and Parag Maniar

A dialogue in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's Wednesday episode has raised a major storm in the Vaishnav community. The religious authorities including Maha Prabhuji and the sevaks have objected to a dialogue in the episode. Suvarna Jha aka Trupti spews, "Bhad mein jayen aap, aur bhad mein jayen aap ke Thakurji (You and your Thakurji, go to hell)."

The entire Vaishnav community is planning to file a case against Balaji Telefilms and Ekta Kapoor. Kiranbhai Vasani, a sevak, says, "Our blood is boiling at this kind of humiliation to our Thakurji. I don't understand why our god has to be dragged into portraying a negative character."

He adds, "The dialogue has hurt the religious sentiments of our people. Our haveli (temple) has received some 400-500 complaints already and we are waiting for our Guruji to take a serious action."

He continues, "At least five members in my family will stand up against this insult. Kyunki… is one show which has always shown Thakurji in a good light. Such a dialogue is extremely callous and it has not only hurt the sentiments of the Vaishnavs but the entire Hindu community as well. We won't let this go so easily."

Jaswant Mehta, Pushtimarg Maharaj says, "Dialogue writers are immature and irresponsible. Do they realise the impact of such a dialogue and its repercussions?"

He adds, "We are tolerant by nature but we have to speak up for taking the Vaishnav community for granted."

When contacted Suvarna Jha, who actually delivered the controversial dialogue, says, "I am in Goa at present and I am not aware of the situation. All I can say is that this issue should be handled by the channel and the production house. I am just an actress and I delivered the lines I was asked to."

When contacted, head honcho of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta Kapoor says, "I don't know anything about this as yet. I don't have any formal complaint as yet but if they are upset, we will apologise on the show. Trupti is a negative character and we don't necessarily support any view taken by a character."

Dear All,

This is exactly what I have been writing everytime they show a wicked and vendetta driven Kasturi morphing into Devi Maa, conducting rituals in a shocking way, throwing away puja stuff, cooking up ridiculous stories to counter religious sentiments, ordering deities and photoframes of deities, insulting puja rituals by doing nonsensical things, insulting a poor dead soul's ashes in the most horrendous manner etc. The latest was showing a shradhh bhog on a Lori day, that too in the night and to top it all they threw the bhog away while the leading lady Kasturiji looked satisfied with the whole thing.

Really when will this nonsense stop. 😭

Just when will they stop using God to portray a downright negative, despicable and horrendous character like Kasturi.😭... They are calling her God and likening her to one of the main pillars of Hindu faith ...Devi Maa...Kasturi to my mind is not even fit to be called a human... having successfully destroyed two men and their respective families, having outraged the basics of human life by faking a pregnancy, having insulted one man's mortal remains and from the looks of it the other man's existence is also limited ...And the less said about her thought process in all of this the better.

Kasturi like these others serials borders close on blasphemy.

We have members and friends here belonging to different religions who are great individuals 👏👏and who despite not knowing our rituals have the sensitivity to realise that this is a shocking depiction of the Hindu religion.👏

Wonder what money, creative satisfaction and fame are BT and these so called actors getting out of doing this? Creative liberty is fine and its ok to say they are enacting a role, but there is a thin line between enacting something that is evil and enacting something that questions the very basis of our social fibre....

Ekta's comment is especially shocking. As though she does not know what the characters in her show speak.

The more I think of this ..the more I feel Kasturi is getting unbearable by the day.🤢...Time and again I have felt that please keep God, kids and basic values of humanity out of this horrendous piece of fiction.

Just when will insulting God stop in Kasturi?

@JW i am horrified at this article and the dialogue, is this what creativity has come to now adays😡, this is truly disgusting that ekta has no idea about the line Yeah right, this lady needs to realize that yes your characters are dirt and yup they speak alot of garbage but religion is not fiction, it is very truly our way of life our beliefs and no character ficticious or NOT should not be speakin like that about Hindu Gods.... or any religions... Ekta if you realize the line btw fiction and reality, why do you use real life religion in your fiction? thanks JW for postng this thread, I'm horrified that actually people dont ban her shows till she sees right from wrong, i mean yes you will always have people write books, on religion and times yes they hurt the masses with what is written, but out right telling a God to go to Hell is simply out right despicable... and a horrible way to earn your money..

This ain't ever gonna stop...Its really stupid and pathetic how they actually show this stuff. 😕

I guess it'll stop when the serials FINISH completely. But its quite stupid how its become the "norm" to portray the Hindu religion like this.

Hence I stopped watching this stuff ages ago. Not because I can't tolerate it...Because its just pathetic and whatever they show never happens in real life anyway.

The stupidest parts are when they compare the female characters to Godesses..Ufffffffffff goshh go get a life for gods sake 😳 These women will NEVER reach those heights...

Everything in serials is blown out of proportion..They show things that don't actually happen in the Hindu religion. Its out of context.

You can;t show this stuff for entertainment purposes..What is so entertaining about it???? 😕 That the female lead becomes some kind of Godess?? 😕 Wow 👏

Its NOT going to stop. So might as well not hope. Its wrong anyway..Stop watching if you don't like it I guess.

hatts of jw, for this lovely thread
I agree with most of the comments and i think everyone should respect people's beliefs and not make fun of religions/beliefs in the first place.
And creatives should respect Hindu people sentiments

@ JW thnax for sharing the article... u r soo right ... it makes really uncomfortable for anybody to watch such blatant abuse of religious values be it any religion for that matter... ekta shld take more note of her serials and what is being said in them if she really portrays shows for the masses.... she has been commiting the same mistakes in nearly all of her serials... kasturi morphing into a devi is just really unacceptable... dont know when this will stop..

JW thanks for bringing this issue to light. It is absolutely appalling that the dialogue writers are so insensitive to the religious sentiments of the masses. Religion is a very strong foundation in our moral structure and misconstruing the meanings and purposes of the religious beliefs/rituals is unacceptable. Fiction is in its own place but if Ekta intends to exploit religion for entertainment purposes than she is greatly mistaken that it will be tolerated. She should take careful research into the beliefs to avoid handling them so callously.

I'm think it is downright despicable that Ekta seems to be unbothered about the issue and is assuming that a mere apology will suffice just because the abuse was hurled by a negative character. When will she learn to show social responsible television if she insists on being the dominant provider of Indian TV. The actors have their part to play in that they accept everything the creatives dictate because of the lack of job security. Ekta prefers to give thinking-actors the boot rather than to address the flaws in her own team. This once again shows that Ekta does not give a damn about the opinion of the masses as her only objective is fame and fortune.😡
