First of all I am extremely delighted of seeing Omkara/Kunal after such a long time.
And on top of that his top notch acting was just the cherry on the ice cream cake yummm.

I know today's ep was bit diffrent from the current blushing shivika... but i must say, today many important issues were pointed out...

first one, shivika marriage, when Tez said Shivay married Anika for the respect of Oberoi house and he did not think about Anika's lineage etc...

Anika and Shivay looked at each other realizing the plain truth to their so called marriage-it was forced, nothing special and Anika is not perfect to be Shivay's wife... But of course that will change eventually as they have already started to notice a pull towards each other. I thought Tez, pointing it out so directly gave them something to think about.

Most important point of today's episode-->> I absolutely loved the power packed verbal dual between Om and Tez... It reminded me why I was in love with the show... to me Om represent the Ideal world, he is the moral police but Tez represent the real cruel world, where there is no place for an moral police.

I loved how Tez expressed his concern for Om's future in his own twisted way...he is a dad who wants his son to follow his foot step... there are many parents are like that in our culture... they want daughters to be a doctor, and sons to be a engineer, and then when they become adults the parents wants to choose their life partner... and Today Tez realistically portrait the flaw in our societal parents.

Om, being the idealistic, only wants what his heart desire, and believe everyone has the right to live for their own happiness... though he isn't selfish, he isn't willing to sacrifice his happiness for his own father... so the question is when do we call our selves selfless, when we shed our identity for the sake of our family honor and become another cookie cutter like rest of the people or do we hold on to our identity and flourish with our God given talent, like in Om's case ?

I think the show has raised a very important issue today...many of the youths in our culture are battling between selfish and selfless with their parents.. I mean if Lata Mangheshkar opted for a career in medicine, the world would have missed out on her melodic voice...worlds needs unique talented people...and parents should encourage it and not become a obstacle to their happiness for the parent's own selfish ego...

Nice post dear. I like the question you put. And if you are in your teens this question essentially needs to answered.

The answer to your question is we don't. We are never selfless & to be brutally honest there is no need to be selfless in this world. That is actually not motto of anyone's living.

The thing that is important is Survival. That is what drives us forward.
Coming to the show we know that Tej was being anything but Selfless. His actions were motivated from his jealousy for Shivaay. So he is ofcourse not being selfless. I promise you if it were Om's face for Businessman of the Year,Tej would have been acting the same way. It's just that the money would have landed in his account so he wouldn't have a problem with it.

Tej behaviour is an ultimate guide to survival. He survives with what he does. Always. Ofcourse there won't be any meaning to it. Bcoz the ppl he want to live with will walk away & what's the meaning of living without them

Coming to Om. He luckily got success from his art which is rare. But he gets to keep his morals along with success which occurs rarely.

So what do people do when they face a situation like this. When their parents want them to think practically & do something that has sure shot success & money. They go for it. Bcoz they know no matter how wrong there parents are, the thought that drives them is there Children's well being. Here we choose our survival over our dreams bcoz that's what our factory settings tell us to do.

So when we choose our dreams we are not being selfish bcoz we choose them bcoz we believe in ourselves & when we choose what our parents want us to we are not being selfless bcoz we know where we stand in the race we want to run & we kind of feel that I may not come first in it so why not walk in the race I am sure of getting a prize.

My advice to all those who are in a dilemma is choose what you want. If you are ready to starve just to do what you love for the rest of your life, do that. If you are not ready to do that, if your dreams don't drive you hard, choose the easy path. Both ways. You are being selfish so doesn't matter. Both ways you are being brave. So doesn't matter. What matters is how you survive & while doing that keep your soul intact.

Very nice post on current day's tussle between parents and kids.

What you suggested about parents giving space to kids to follow their desire is a necessity but that privilege can't be afforded by many. In case of people like Oberoi's who can provide full pledged studio to their kid to enjoy his passion but when parents can do so much, the son also has some responsibility to make his parents happy. But a middle class or a poor parent can't expect his son to chase his passion which may not provide him (his child) the necessary lively hood. It's not like parents expect their kids to support them financially the moment they grow up but they want their kids to settle down in life so that he shall not face any difficulty in his future because of monitory issues. Once you are settled in your life, no body stops, you from having your passion or desire as a hobby and pursue it and enjoy. It's not like Tej was asking him to discontinue his passion and dream of becoming an artist. Had he been like that, he would not have sent his son abroad to study and practice arts. All he is asking him is to also take active part in the family business which he and his family has built with hard work. Dedicate few hours of your day for business and some for your dream.
We have seen so many youngsters forget what they studied that too when they have spent their parents hard earned money for their technical studies and master degrees and claim they don't have the passion to do such work but want to pursue teaching the under privileged for 5k or 10k (rupees). No I am not saying you should not serve the nation by helping the under privileged but will you be able to lead your life with that mere money in this society? There is no need for you to call it quits to your job and do social work. You can still do that being in the society while you are working in a field you chose to study. Work for 5 days to earn and spend your 2 days and some of the earned money for the social service, that way you can do better service. The parents who spent on your education can still live their life as they would have already practiced to live with minimum expenditure to cater to your needs, so don't think they are compelling you to take a high paying job just because they will get loads of money. They ask you to take a better job because you are accustomed to easy life and they don't want you to face difficulty in your life with lack of money.

Sorry if I have hurt someone's feelings with my post. My intension is not to hurt anyone's emotions. But still if I have done it, its unintentional and I am sorry for that.

The one dialogue that gave me the chills and got straight to my heart was between ShivKara.
Shivaay : Aaj tak Bhai ka har farz nibhaaya meine.. Aaj mei apna haq jataaunga..

I dnt know about you people but that gave me major ShivKara goals and fells ☺️

You've raised the million dollar question of the modern world in Asian society.

I couldn't agree with you more, parents should support the passions of their children and stop thinking so much about how society will perceive the child's choice of career or where the child will stand in the economic strata of society.

Parents should start listening more than dictating. Give more importance to the child's happiness unless of course the child chooses to do something that's blatantly harmful to the child or society.

I love how this was portrayed in the movie 3 Idiots and love that it's being tackled on a popular tv serial like IB which will be viewed by many impressionable parents and "well meaning" uncles and aunties who usually have loads of "priceless" advise for parents dealing with children that won't conform to their parents' wishes.

When does the child get to live his dreams, when he/she has children and they then impose their dreams on their children and the vicious cycle continues 😭

Thank you for highlighting such an important issue. 😊

p/s I'm glad to have Om back as well

I have not seen the episode but I must say Shivaay as a brother is the times I connected to him. The first scene I really shipped ShivKara was when Shivaay thought Om had overdosed and he confontred him in the kitchen later. He said:

"Tumai sab Kuch allowed hai, lekin muje chor kar jana allowed nahi hai".

The emotions in that scene? Amazing. The feels? That scene gave me chills! So I know what you mean. Loved Shivaay the brother always will!

@TM Great post. I am out at the moment, so will try and write a response later.
