Beyhadh is not just about Maya, Arjun & Sanjh but Beyhadh also boasts of another strong character, a towering presence that is almost present in almost all sequences, especially in the turning points - It is Metaphor! beyhadh is rife with them, though I would love to talk about them until you plead for your life, I am going to restrict myself to 01/02/2017 episode.
Beyhadh strongly reminds me of Chess. The King is all important in the play yet it is the queen's who are the most powerful. Somewhat similar is the fate of Arjun, the silent king who was barricaded and safeguarded by one queen but today he walks in the wake of another queen who has freed him from the fortress.
Arjun, the open-hearted and very importantly open minded man is caught in the middle of a war that he is not even aware of in the metaphorical world while in his world, he is literally caught in the middle of a sinking islet. Both the queens immediately become aware of the peril of the king yet it is only one queen who saves him from danger.
Fire burns, ohh!! it burns, while some fire burns with an intensity that wipes out everything leaving you with a clean slate to begin with, other fires leave traces leaving you with a permanent scar. It was interesting to see that the sensible Sanjh has the pics of herself and her bestie Arjun's photos in her album, an album she flips again and again but what was odd was that photos never allowed a third person in it..All the photos were neatly cut out leaving her and Arjun - No Ayan, No Papa, Mamma, No Vandana aunty...Just her and Arjun!! But the fire has other ideas, it burns out Sanjh from Arjun's side while leaving a permanent marker in Sanjh's life in the form of that album.
Let's revert back to Arjun, who is still in the midst of life or death situation. He rushes here and there, looking for a way out, a man caught in a lonely islet, an island cut off from everything when there is no escape, he prays to the lord to deliver him from danger & within few seconds, Maya comes in her boat rushing to rescue him. ( The loud uttering of prayer and the subsequent arrival may not mean a thing had not Arjun kneeled down and made signs of thankfulness to god).
The pair of them walk back but from hereon, Arjun will walk on the path shown by Maya. Gone is the reign of Sanjh, Poof! just like that But will the status quo remain for long - don't think so because Dusk(y) is coming...Soon.
The next scene that comes is and will remain one of my most favorite scene of Beyhadh. The beauty, the emotions and the subtlety of the scene just leaves you awestruck!! What happens is this... Maya has not calmed down yet, one single trigger & the Icy queen turns volcanic and erupts!! Arjun is unfazed by her outburst, he quietly stands up and points at the horizon, at the distance , at the void and at the fact that they are away from people, from hatred, from evilness.. they are in a place where peace reigns, among nature where gods dwell ..just the two of them..just the two..
AND Then begins my favorite scene... Arjun and Maya together wth Maya leaning on him as Arjun speaks about life, tells her to forget the future, forget the past but to LIVE THE MOMENT. He then slowly lifts Maya's hand, a trusting Maya who does not resist him.. He takes her hand and dips it in the crystal clear water, cleaning her of her pain, of sorrow.. This action is not done by Maya alone, it is Arjun who holds her hand and together they dip in the ocean's water to wash away the pain's of yesterday and to begin a new tomorrow while they savor the present calm. - MY MOST FAVORITE SCENE..
Maya who has been running, hiding all her life, scared to death half he time, leans on his shoulder and sleeps off because finally she has found a sanctuary, a refuge that will accept her and a man who sees HER and not what is shown!! Isn't it the truth because when he picked up that thistle thorn, a thorn that is kicked out or disliked by people because of its spiky exterior, it was Arjun who sees the beauty in that thorn, likewise when the whole world will see the craziness of Maya, he will be the one who will see the beauty hidden deep within Maya - Hopefully, he will bring that Maya out!!
Oh before I forget, I loved the fact that Arjun removes the darkened glasses when he begins to follow Maya... cool metaphor that!!
