Saiyaara Male lead is overrated!!!
Part 21
Wow that's so cool conversation between Maan and dev, you came out with a brilliant idea. The whole poem rhymes well.. too good. More of their conversation, I loved the poem... I keep reading it few times and imagining Dev and his saying it dramatically...
CHAPTER 22. BEFORE THE PARTY
"...And then I will twist it this way and you will see how perfect the look is! I know you look prettier in open hair but a stylish hair do is what goes perfectly with these western gowns!", Annie continued to chatter as she explained her plan for Geet's hair and make up but Geet was lost in her thoughts and did not even hear her. It was mid afternoon and Annie had barged into Geet's room with all her make up boxes and hair accessories. She wanted Geet to look perfect and hence, had designed the perfect look for Geet. She was so excited about her idea that she could not resist from chattering about it and telling Geet in exact detail what she planned to do with her hair and her face.
"Oh ho! I keep on chattering here and you are not even listening! Geet! You are okay na?", Annie asked worriedly. She shook Geet and Geet came out of her reverie. "Huh? What?", she looked at Annie blankly. Annie huffed, "Uff! I have been talking to you for so long and you didn't even notice it! I am saying that I will put a stylish hair do to your hair and...", Annie continued but Geet tuned her out as she looked into the mirror in front of her. All she could think about was Maan's voice mumbling, "I love her!" Geet blushed as she remembered that moment. She was passing by the study when she heard the brothers' arguing. They were talking in rhymes and poems so Geet could not understand everything. But she did understand one thing! They were talking about her! Once Dev said her name, Geet could not resist from stepping ahead and eavesdropping. And what she heard blew her mind away! Maan loved her! Hey Babaji!
Geet squeaked loudly and rubbed her arm while looking at Annie accusingly. While she was lost in daydreaming, Annie was not amused about being ignored and had pinched Geet, quite sharply, in her arm.
"Why did you pinch me?", Geet whined.
"Because you are not listening to me!", Annie huffed and before Geet knew it, Annie started talking about the look' again. This time Geet heard the whole lecture properly and even cheered excitedly when Annie asked what she thought of it. She was touched that Annie was ready to go to such lengths to make her day perfect and getting up from her seat, Geet hugged Annie. Annie hugged her back. Once they pulled away, Annie ordered Geet to take a seat so that Annie could start with the make up and the hair. Geet excitedly sat down in front of the mirror and let Annie do her magic. But as Annie started her work, Geet's mind went back to the morning and Maan's words. "I love her!" As Geet sat there, her thoughts turned inward. I still cannot believe it! He loves me! And I love him. Suddenly life seems so perfect. Geet felt excitement bubble inside her but then she frowned. But what now? I know he loves me, and of course, I love him. But what after this? Geet didn't have an inkling of what next course of action she should take.
"Annie! Pyaar ke baad kya hota hai?", Geet spoke as she looked down at her hands.
"Kya?", Annie asked. The sudden jump into topic of love baffled her.
"What happens after love?", Geet asked as she looked at Annie through the mirror.
Annie, who was straightening Geet's hair blinked in confusion for a second and then she shrugged, "What will happen after love? Marriage na?"
Geet huffed, "No! You didn't understand what I meant! I mean after you realize you are in love, what happens next?"
Annie chuckled, "Why do you want to know?"
Geet bit her lip. She couldn't blurt out the truth, can she?
"Just curious!", Geet shrugged and acted nonchalant.
Annie narrowed her eyes, as if assessing whether Geet was being truthful. After few seconds, she mumbled, "Once you realize your love, you should confess it. What else? You can't keep it buried in your heart forever right?"
Geet nodded and Annie forgot the discussion and focused on making Geet look perfect for the evening. But Geet did not forget the conversation. After love, its confession. But who will confess first? Should I do it? Geet's eyes widened apprehensively. Her heart started beating fast and her breath turned erratic. Butterflies erupted in her stomach just at the thought of confessing her love to Maan. She shook her head mentally. Nahi nahi! Let Maan do it. I cannot do it. Her heart beat lowered to normal and she sank into her chair in relief. Yes! Let Maan be the first one to confess! I don't think I can! With the way my heart is beating just at the thought of it, I feel I will faint before I confess. So yes, let Maan confess first. Now that the matter was settled, Geet's mind turned back to Maan's words from the morning. She wondered what would happen in the party. Will her look stun Maan? Will he complement her? Geet frowned. Nahi nahi! He is too arrogant to do that! I bet he would simply nod and say I look nice. Geet giggled. Bas Geet! Enough of this daydreaming! Focus on the night! I have to be my best then only Maan will win the bet! She mentally started to go through her lessons but her mind kept on wandering over to one thing, Maan's words I love her'.
Maan paced the living room non stop. Dev felt a keen sense of dj vu at the scene. Why does this scene look familiar? Dev was tempted to scratch his head. Then his eyes lit up. Oh yes! Bro did the same thing last time we took Geet to a party. Dev rolled his eyes.
"I don't understand why you are so nervous!", Dev spoke up. Maan stopped pacing and looked at him with agitation. Dev continued to speak, "Of course Geet will perform her best! She has been trained by the best remember? Have some confidence!" But Maan simply ignored him and continued to pace.
"Oh come on Bro! Have some faith in Geet! She will be the best Princess we would have ever seen! So stop worrying. Or is it something else that is irritating you?", Dev frowned and then his eyes widened and he got up from his seat and grinned eagerly. He walked upto his brother and whispered to him, "You are nervous about your feelings, isn't it?"
"Feelings? What feelings?", Maan growled while looking away from his brother. Dev rolled his eyes. Here we go again! Didn't I push him from denial to acceptance just in the morning? He is back to denial?! Oh Man! My brother is a unique piece!
"Arre! Your feelings! For Geet! Uff!", Dev huffed. Maan growled, "I have no..."
Maan trailed off as his eyes fixed on something. Dev, who was looking at Maan, piped in, "Haan haan! Go ahead! Keep deny...", Dev trailed off too as he narrowed his eyes at Maan. Why Bro is looking so stupefied? He turned to look at the direction in which Maan was looking. What he saw blew his mind!
Geet stood at the top of the stairs looking every inch an exotic princess. Her sky blue gown glittered under the light. The sweetheart neckline emphasized her curves and her hair held up in a stylish hairstyle only manage to highlight her face. Her cheekbones sharp, her brown eyes wide, her lips looking luscious, she looked ethereal. Dev looked away from Geet and turned towards Maan and had the bad urge to start laughing at the gob smacked look on Maan's face. No feeling, my foot! You are crazy for her, Bro! And I am enjoying your love struck fool look. Geet lifted her dress slightly so as to not trip on it and slowly got down the stairs. She seemed to be floating, Dev mused. Her feet adorned silver colored open toed heels. Dev was reminded of Cinderella's tale. A simpleton turned into princess for one night! It fits Geet so perfectly. Wait a minute! If Geet is Cinderella, who is Prince Charming? Dev snuck a glance at Maan. Maan Bro! Prince Charming! Dev had to try very hard to stop himself from laughing.
Just then Geet reached the room and came to stand before Maan. Annie came to stand beside her. She looked stunning in her red dress but it was obvious that Geet stole the scene. Annie had given Geet her silver earrings and it only made her look prettier.
"So Bhai! How does she look?", asked Annie. Maan simply stared at Geet in stupor. Dev elbowed him and Maan came to his senses, "Huh? What?" Geet blushed as she realized that Maan did not speak till now because he was lost in her. Hey Babaji! Now you can be gruff and don't even praise me! I won't mind. Because I have read your face and I have read your eyes! You think I look beautiful and that is enough for me!
"I said how does she look?", Annie asked again.
"Hmm... Ok! She looks nice!", saying this Maan turned away.
Annie's jaw dropped open, "Nice? Only nice? I worked so hard and you have only nice' to say?", Annie continued to splutter in indignation. Geet simply grinned. I so knew you were going to say that! Oh Maan! You are so cute!
"Oh ho sis! Forget Bro! Let me tell you that you have done a fantastic job! Geet looks out of the world!", Dev praised both the ladies. Annie looked proud and Geet softly mumbled a thank you while her eyes remained on Maan.
Dev noticed the way Geet looked at Maan and how Maan seemed to be avoiding her eyes. He chuckled. These two are so cute! Deciding to give them some private time, Dev spoke up, "Ok! I think its time to leave! I will go and start the car! Annie! Come with me! I have got a surprise for you outside!"
"Kya? What is it?", Annie looked excited and Dev grabbed her hand and dragged her away. Maan and Geet were left alone in the hall.
Geet felt sudden nervousness fill her and she looked around everywhere except where Maan stood. Maan seemed to be doing the same thing. As Maan looked all over the room, his eyes subconsciously landed on Geet. He frowned.
"Arre! You are not wearing any jewelry on your neck?", Maan blurted out.
Geet looked startled at being addressed by Maan and then replied, while her hands fingered her bare neck, "Haan! Woh... Annie didn't have anything matching!"
Maan nodded and then he frowned again as he thought of something.
"Wait here!", he ordered Geet and walked away to Daadima's room where Daadima stayed whenever she visited them.
Geet pouted, "Today also he ordered me! Maan! Just one day you stop ordering me and ask me to do something!"
Few minutes later, Maan came back with some jewelry box in his hand. He opened it in front of Geet and started removing something from it, "Here! Try this! Its my mom's. Mom had left some jewelries with Daadima for Annie, my future wife and Dev's future wife before her death! This one was left for my future wife! I think it will go perfectly with your dress!"
Geet's eyes widened. For his mom's bahu? Her heart thudded in her chest at the implications of her wearing the set made for Maan's future wife. Is it what I think it is? She shook her head. No! You are reading too much into this, Geet!
Maan pulled out the diamond necklace and handed it over to Geet. Geet was about to take it in her hand but with her nervousness at this intimate moment between her and Maan, her fingers fumbled.
"One minute! I will put it!", Maan softly spoke, his eyes intense looking at her. Geet gulped nervously and then nodded. He handed over the jewelry box to her. She slowly turned around and Maan placed the necklace on her neck. She felt his fingers on her back as he hooked the necklace and felt a shiver go down her back.
Maan hooked the necklace on the back of her neck. As he did that, he was unable to pull his hands away from her skin. Her milky marble like skin lured him and his hand slipped from the back of her neck to the sides of her neck.
Geet's eyes widened and her breath quickened at Maan's touch. She quivered and her hands gripped the folds of her dress tightly. Oh no! She was definitely not looking too much into this! Maan was as attracted to her as she was to him. He loves me! He is attracted to me! Geet felt elation thud in her heart. She felt immense happiness well inside her. Just then Maan pulled away.
What is this that I am doing? Have I gone mad? Maan thought as he pulled his hands away from Geet. She turned around still feeling nervous. Her eyes were on the ground. It was only when Maan took the box from her hand that she looked up. His eyes were focused on something inside the box and Geet took this time to check her necklace out. She went to the mirror at a corner of the room and stood in front of her. Her eyes lit up. The necklace looked perfect on her. The diamonds sparkled and Geet fingered them reverently. As she was staring at herself in the mirror, Maan came and stood behind her. Geet took in a sharp breath. For a second, the vision in front of her made her feel like a husband and wife were standing in front of the mirror getting ready for some party. Her heart quickened in her chest and she turned around to look away from the image. Her eyes lingered on Maan's shirt. Maan was dressed in his usual three piece suit with a coat worn over his shirt and vest. His silver tie was the only color in his all black attire.
As Geet eyed the tie, she realized it was crooked. Without a second thought, she raised her hand and straightened it. As she did that, Maan grabbed her hand and her eyes looked up. For a second both were lost in the moment. Then Maan looked away and the spell broke. Geet took in a deep breath and attempted to push her intense feelings away. Geet! What are you doing? Ignore your feelings! This is not the right moment to get lost in your Maan! Remember! You have a party to go where you have to give your best!
Maan sighed and was tempted to card his fingers through his hair in frustration. But he could not even do that as that would mess his gelled hair. Why? Why do I get so lost in her? Why? He growled mentally. A voice that sounded quite like Dev piped in his mind; Because you love her you buffoon. Maan pushed that voice away. Just then his eyes fell on the set. Oh yes! The reason I followed Geet from the middle of the hall to the mirror at one corner.
Geet had her eyes on her ground again and hence she was totally surprised when her hand was grabbed by Maan. She looked up at Maan a little confused and then her eyes widened as Maan slid a diamond ring on to her hand. When Geet looked at Maan in confusion, Maan explained, "Its another family heirloom. Eldest Bahu of Khurana Family wears it. I want you to have it for the night. It would go with the set perfectly!"
Maan walked away but Geet stood stunned. She looked at the ring and then at Maan's retreating back.
"Its another family heirloom. Eldest Bahu of Khurana Family wears it. I want you to have it for the night.", Maan voice echoed in her head. Family heirloom? Eldest bahu? Hey Babaji! Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized the implications of Maan's actions. Main samajh gayi Maan! I understood what you want to say perfectly. You couldn't say the words but your action showed it to me perfectly. You love me, haina? I love you too Maan! And you may not be able to confess through words but I can! And I will! In the evening, once the party ends, Geet Handa will go to Maan Singh Khurana and confess her feelings to him! Geet grinned happily. Just then Maan stopped at the door, turned around and shouted, "Geet! Come on!"
Geet nodded eagerly and followed him. Yes Maan! I will follow you! I will follow you wherever you want! Because I love you! And you will also know this, when the night ends!
But what Geet did not know was that when the night would end, Geet would be far away from confessing.
How was that folks? Romantic? Cheesy? Or boring? Do let me know your thoughts!
Also next update will be the party! Expect a Maaneet romantic dance!
