'I wonder what he is doing right now'
Riddhima mentally slapped herself at that thought. She really needed to get hold of herself. Falling in love with her husband would be great only if it would be someone other than Armaan Malik.
Slouching on her couch, Riddhima continued to click through the channels to find something interesting to watch. She found it irritating that nothing good was on screen. Like any other Friday evening she was alone and bored. She hates weekends, there is absolutely nothing for her to do. of course Armaan leaves her all by herself. But she doesn't complain about it, she understand how difficult it must be to accept some random girl as his wife. In fact she is grateful to him that he married her.
It was around a year ago when Armaan visited her village back in India. Every girl in her school was excited to see a group of boys visiting from Manchester for their college project. Armaan was one of them. She liked him instantly. He was tall and well built person. He seems fun-loving and well behave at the same time. He was everything that her back than fiance Jay wasn't. Right than, right there, a strong part of her wished to be with him. A part which prayed for him when she didn't even knew his name.
Ding dong!
Her eyes flickered to the clock on the wall. Though it was only 9.30pm, Armaan can't be home at this time of night. She clicked the off button on the remote and stood up to answer the door.
Her hands grasped the knobs and she once again glanced at the clock.
Riddhima unlocked the door and opened it.
"How the hell?...Armaan!" She gaped at the man before her. He raised his eyebrows at her strange greeting but pushed it aside. Armaan chuckled at her reaction and stepped into the flat, not caring about the lack of invitation.
Things might not be at its best but Armaan didn't changed much after the marriage. Mostly because Riddhima never gave him a hard time. It was always like two not so good friends living under one roof. Maybe that's why he falls forher!
That's right, Armaan had realize his love for Riddhima few months ago. They never shared any proximity or talked like best friends. They don't even know much about each other except for the fact that Riddhima have a horrible family who were forcing their daughter to marry a man who paid the highest price to marry her.
And Riddhima finds Armaan's family completely bizarre, his parents didn't even reacted when Armaan introduced her as his bride. She was expecting some drama, maybe little concern, little disappointment. She was prepared for it but all they did was congrats him and that's all.
"What's wrong?" Armaan asked her when he found her glued to the entrance
Riddhima closed her mouth and shut the door before her
"W-why are you back so early?" He didn't answer and simply looked at her up and down. She looked down at herself and turned beet red when she realized what she was wearing. There and then, she promised herself to never put on her Indian Salwar with t-shirt, not even on Fridays
Fiddling with the sleeves of her pink Barbie shirt, Riddhima avoided Armaan gaze. Her eyes stopped moving as she stared at the red and white paper bag in his hand with Chinese characters printed on it.
Armaan held the paper bag up "Yeah, I got us some Chinese takeout. I didn't feel like having dinner with friends so I thought that I'd eat with you"
"I've already eaten thank you very much" She said nervously "Hum kal saath meh khale?" Riddhima didn't want to upset him. This is the first time ever he asked for a dinner together.
"Geez, I was just kidding Riddhima" He stuck out his tongue at her, She smiled a little.
"Anyway" Armaan proceeded to take out an empty container out of the bag "I was too hungry, so I ate everything already".
"But" Armaan raised his hand "I saved the fortune cookies for us to eat together"
Her smile brightens . If there was one food that Riddhima Malik loved to eat the most, besides chocolate, it was fortune cookies. The wonderful, yummy and crunchy cookies. She had them first when Armaan's dad took her out for dinning, it was after her classes when she ran into him while walking back to home
Armaan bit back a smirk as he watched her smiling , and then headed to the kitchen.
He came back and set the serviettes down on the coffee table before settling down on the sofa. Riddhima leaned back on the soft cushions and took out a cookie from the box.
Sniffing the cookie, she shrugged and broke a piece and popped it into her mouth.
Her companion slowly sat down next to her, his eyes not leaving her face.
Riddhima remained oblivious to his stare and continued to chew the cookie happily.
"What does your fortune say?" Armaan questioned. She took out the small piece of paper and popped the rest of the cookie into her mouth.
"Je" She swallowed "Maybe there is a need to talk to the one closer to you". Riddhima looked at Armaan and confusion was all written on her face. "Kya matlab?!" Armaan didn't react to that, she is innocent, that's one reason why she doesn't have lots of friends in high school.
He kinda knew she would be confuse. He suddenly remembered the time when he visited India, he was there for a project on Poverty, the college has decided a village called sultanpur where Armaan with others would conduct the survey and interview as well as teach the people around. He first time saw Riddhima in a random field where some guy was ruthlessly screaming at her. She stood there in shocked and Armaan decided to ignore and walked by until he heard her screaming. He ran back to place were Riddhima was, Jay was trying to force himself on her.
"Armaan?" Riddhima's voice disturbed his thoughts
"sorry I...Take another one!"
She quickly grabbed another cookie, not noticing the disappointed look on Armaan's face.
She snapped the cookie in half once more and ate it as she read her fortune.
"Love is around the corner " Her stomach felt funny as she blushed at the words. Is the fortune talking about Armaan? She hoped so.
Riddhima repeated the last sentence again and again asked the same question "Matlab" She really was scared about it. She doesn't want to have any false hope about their relationship. She was happy with her life with him. He doesn't shout or beat her like her father would do.
Armaan's eyes narrowed as he grabbed another cookie and placed it in her hand. She repeated the same procedure closed her eyes to enjoy the taste of the cookies, not bothering with the fortune in her hand.
Armaan tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for her to read the fortune. "Hurry up Riddhima and read it already"
Riddhima smiled a little and straightened the paper "The one you love is just in front of you". She frowned slightly at the unusual fortune. Somehow the fortunes she had received so far were slightly similar to each other. And the person sitting in front of her was Armaan and he was certainly someone she loved.
Riddhima's heart skip a beat, Did Armaan really planned this all? Is it just a coincident? Is he trying to tell her something? There was so many questions in her mind but all that she mumbled was "Matlab?"
Armaan's jaw clench, she is stupid, he knows that, she literally believed that Jay was trying to beat her that day when Armaan came to rescue her, cause she had no idea what "being physical" means other than beating.
"focus" he said in a stern voice before grabbing another cookie. He crushed it in his hand and handed her the small paper.
Riddhima silently read the fortune and froze at the words written
'Maybe your husband loves you'
Suddenly, everything made sense and Riddhima was now very much sure about Armaan 's motive and the fortune cookies. But She was enjoying Armaan being annoyed so pretending to be oblivious to her new discovery and said the fortune out loud.
She looked at him, "It says maybe" she said slowly
"Are you testing my patience Mrs.Malik" Armaan asked in a little challenging voice
"Meh tho bus" Riddhima tried to play innocent.
"Meh tho bus...blah blah blah" Armaan intimates her
He stood from his place and walked to her
"Don't test my patience, wifey, you will be sorry" Armaan whispered in his husky voice
"Armaan" Riddhima moved a little uncomfortably
"We need to talk" Armaan announced "I am no very good at being serious but I want to talk about us"
"I love you too" Riddhima's reply caused a big smile on Armaan's face.
"Armaan I know its not very easy to marry someone you saved. You saved me from Jay and then there were some serious accusations on us-on you and without any thoughts you just marry me to save me from the whole village. Of course I love you, you along with your family gave me a beautiful life, you respect me. And despite the fact that we live all by ourselves in here, you never did anything wrong to me." Riddhima confessed, she always wanted to thank him for everything he always did for her.
"Enough said" Armaan spoke before she could said anything further "I didn't married you because I loved you back then. It didn't meant anything to me that time. I mean...I thought- hey! Lets marry her is that's a way out of it. That's all! Jay didn't really deserved you, I didn't liked him that's also reason I choose to marry you" he laughed aa little
"let past remain in the past, lets talk about now, I love you for no reason Riddhima, it's not the way you talk or look or smile. I just love you, I think about you, I care about you, I love you" he spoke again " And I am going to be immature and sometimes a total freak and there is still time for me to earn so you have to adjust in our pocket money and my wages but I promise to love you."
"Armaan" Riddhima hugged him tightly, its feels so good.
Armaan hugged her back. "We are gonna have a beautiful life"
"I know" Riddhima murmured back.

I hope you liked the story, I honestly was out of ideas and then i read a story with fortune cookie's proposal and liked the idea so that was my inspiration to this story.
(I could have added some GIFs but I am editing on my mobile cause my laptop is broken and I don't know to add some from mobile)
