It's weird/interesting that everyone is okay with Saanjh's obsession

I think both Maya and Saanjh are equally obsessed with Arjun (who knows why) But while Maya's obsession is portrayed as a deadly obsession, Saanjh's one is not. Everyone around her not only normalizes her attachment to him, but they encourage it. The only one who was somewhat freaked out by this was her dad.
Today Ayaan mentioned Saanjh doesn't even let him go to their shaanti spot. This is her spot with Arjun and no one gets to go to it, no one. In the past Ayaan's mom had made a comment to Saanjh saying you have never let a third person enter between you two before, don't let it happen now. That is such a weird thing to say!! That is such a weird thing to do! Especially because I don't think Arjun is aware of it. When Arjun says no one is going to come between us he means that no one will ever come between us to create problems, or no one will ever be more important than my best friend Saanjh. Arjun is okay if Saanjh gets married to a 3rd person. But for Saanjh it is different. She doesn't want a third person to enter their relationship because Arjun is all hers. Her problem is not that Maya is weird, and may not be the right person for Arjun. Her problem is simply that there is a person who might take Arjun's love.

It's interesting that Saanjh was devastated because Maya got to be the hero instead of her. Ayaan was in real danger, who cares who saved him? What mattered was that he was saved. But it mattered to her. Saanjh comes off as bubbly, and happy but her behavior is coming off extremely negative and to be honest scary. She basically wants to be the only one that matters in Arjun's world. She is used to being Arjun rock since they were young and she wants to keep it that way.

Usually in dramas we have one negative character and one positive character. But here both characters are a mix. It is not that Maya is a villain but she is mentally unstable, and actually suicidal. One has to wonder if she will ever get better with stable relationships and treatment. What I like about her story is that she already told Arjun how she feels and she is not forcing or blackmailing him to love her back. I was afraid that was a route they were going to take because that is usually what we see on screen. What's interesting about Saanjh is that she is not the typical mahan dayalu good girl who wants to sacrifice her happiness for Arjun's. She wants him and she wants to keep Maya away.

Out of arjun saanjh n Maya, my favorite is Maya the crazy adorable scary character who is yet to b decoded she has many shades n layers to her personality. No doubt she is obsessed with arjun n wants him at any cost.
As far as saanjh is concerned she a typical predictable daily soap positive bubbly girl next door type of a character. She is not obsessed with arjun she loves him. I mean my best friend gave me a teddy once I don't even let my family touch it, so does that mean I m obsessed no right? Same goes for saanjh, all she doing right now is warning arjun again n again about Maya because she has seen her deewangi during dinner sequence.
Saanjh n Maya r completely different they have nothing in common. Maya is unique.

I think clingy-ness is how I would describe Saanjh's behaviour sometimes.

Coming to the third person thing, anyone who is in love with their best friend would be insecure about a third person coming between them. Heck normal people who aren't in love with their best friend get jealous. 😆 Plus acknowledge that its just been them two for a long time, she's allowed to be jealous in this case.

Jealousy is a normal emotion. It is understandable that Saanjh has it and that Maya has it. It is how they act on it is what makes the difference. For example: Maya promotes people to stop him having lunch with Saanjh. Saanjh becomes emotional and yells at him. Maya breaks Arjun's phone when Saanjh calls. Saanjh hand delivers Maya's gift for Arjun and then yells at him. The difference between those examples are very obvious. Maya's reaction to jealousy and insecurity is scary. Saanjh's reaction is annoying at best for Arjun.

The reason why I called Maya obssessed is because she is so fixated on Arjun that I think she would hurt herself (balloon incident) for him. She won't let go him if he says no, she will manipulate in a way that may hurt others (if not physically, then emotionally) till she gets what she wants. If Arjun rejects Saanjh, then that's it, she's heartbroken. There isn't much more to it.

Also I don't think she would rather that Ayaan spend time in jail instead Maya helping him out. I think she was upset at the realization that she is helpless, she is being replaced and Maya can do everything 10x better than she can.

Also, if you do want to name it obsession then any kind of love is obsession. Heck studies show that love makes a similar part of the brain active as OCD when in love. But the type of obsession makes a huge difference. Which is why I would say Maya and Saanjh are not on the same boat, they are not equally obsessed with Arjun. Deadly makes Maya a lot more fixated on Arjun than Saanjh.

The above explanations are why I am okay with Saanjh's behaviour, it just makes sense to me.

And I agree, Saanjh is not flawless, the fact she reacts to her emotions in anger and yelling makes her real. Though the shanti spot was a little extra considering its the terrace and accessible to anyone. 😆 I think the CVs did that to emphasize Maya taking over Saanjh.

Up until now I did not find her behaviour weird. Most of it was jealousy. But today, when Ayan mentioned that she does not let anyone go to the Shanti Spot and the way she reacted to seeing Maya there, I did find her behaviour a bit over the top.

Another thing that struck me as odd was that Saanjh didn't seem happy about Ayan getting bail. OK, I get the initial shock of it all, but even later she seemed angry about the fact that she wasn't the one who saved the day.

I love the way you wrote this and I completely agree with you !!

I just started watching and caught up with the show in the last 3 days and I found Saanjh to be more obsessed of Arjun than Maya !!

I actually relate more to the character of Maya bcoz while she may be mentally unstable she know what she wants and I'm really glad they didn't send her down this crazy villain role who forces the guy to love her !! I love that she's finding out what Arjun loves and what he likes to do etc ... and that seems like something normal to me .. in fact after the whole proposal episode Maya has bcum a different person.. she encourages Arjun and genuinely cares for him !!

I get that Saanjh cares for him also but forcing him to quit his job or not to hang out with Maya is very best friendly !!
And I also found it weird that the whole family is ok with Saanjh being the only girl for Arjun when he clearly isn't interested in her !! They are literally forcing Arjun and Saanjh to b together!! If u ask me their just like Maya !! She's obsessed with Arjun for sure !! But the family and Saanjh obsessing over their so called love crazy !! More crazy than Maya

I'm so Team Maya !

I beg to differ. Of course she was happy for ayaan. But that doesn't mean she will ignore the fact that she couldn't do anything for him or for arjun right. It's human nature. And considering the history here with Maya, it is but natural for saanjh to feel bad because it was Maya who saved Ayaan. She realised that she is helpless and Maya is powerful enough to get whatever she wants, that's what overpowered the feeling of happiness for ayaan. That only makes her human, not obsessed.

Addressing the TM of this post:

The bond that Saanjh and Arjun share is very special. Till today, there has been no third person between them. Saanjh is alien to the feeling of someone being more close to Arjun than her. Any bestie would feel jealous. I feel jealous too, when I see my bestie choose someone else over me, when all this while I have been that person's priority. Does that mean I'm obsessed? I think not. Also, Saanjh has seen the dark side of Maya. She knows that if Arjun continues this friendship with Maya, Saanjh will lose him. Because Maya is going to make sure Arjun is hers, and Saanjh is deleted from his life. She doesn't underestimate Maya and her intentions. Yes I agree her approach to the problem is highly flawed. Whereas Maya's approach to the situations is very very smart. But that is the whole point. How this makes Arjun-Saanjh move apart and Arjun-Maya come closer. If Saanjh tactfully manages maya now, there's no way Arjun would fall for Maya's manipulative ways. So for now, Saanjh is trying to warn him, and make him see the truth. But soon as she realises that doesn't work, maybe we get to see a different side of her.

Very interesting perspective both girls are possessive and protective about arjun, i have said in multiple post its normal to be jealous /possessive /protective about lovedones.
In case of saanjh toh she is literally treated like arjun's wife by both family , her possessiveness has been encouraged both by arjun n fly . So its natural to be insecure , initially scenes saanjh was scared for arjun coz of maya , later angry n jealous , slowly now as maya is intruding between them she is hurt n helpless . Ayan bail thing i felt like she was hurt not coz maya bailed him out coz maya used her power to free ayan proved herself to be better for arjun n indirectly taunted her . Where as maya is not just possessive she is obsessed with arjun , she is emotionally dependent on arjun there is nothing wrong to find security in arms of gentlemen but what is wrong is she buying /manipulating to get his love . She doesn't want to share his attention with anyone else , this all her actions are just get arjun once she gets him she will control him . Thats wat she said to her mom that u should never allow ur love to control u , if it tries to control u destroy it . How long she will try or act to prove that she can fit in arjun's lifestyle. They are both pole apart , for watever reason arjun will fall or maya ( which will happen i guess remember 1st promo ) will maya accept arjun with his lifestyle , will she accept saanjh n arjun's bond ? Will she respect arjun's fly reluctance? If arjun goes back on his words and comes out of his mayajaal will she allow him to walk away unharmed ? And she is never vocal in her intentions , she will use blackmail method n bend arjun. Where as saanjh is vocal , she blurts out her anger insecurity openly , she has fought with arjun and later wen arjun cleared his stand she has supported him be it balloon thing or arjun's descion to stick to his post . For that matter even arjun is such flawed ckt , even in first promo he yearns for wealth success and high possibility that he will believe this pampering as true love untill materialist world will crush arjun sharma's freedom.

I find it interesting that many of you are in a way saying Saanjh is more honest than Maya. I respect that opinion but I think I disagree. I think by hiding the fact that Saanjh loves Arjun she in a way is also plotting behind his back. Her unrequited love would not be an issue if she let Arjun live a life however he wanted but she influences his decisions. If Maya does things to keep Arjun away from Saanjh then Saanjh also wishes to do the same thing but more or less fails.
I think Maya as a character has surprised me so far so I am not going to pretend I know how she will react in the future. Maybe she will be a total psycho if Arjun ends up falling in love with Saanjh, but until that happens I don't want to say Maya is going to be that character. As I said, I expected her to emotionally blackmail Arjun or force him to be with her because those are the behaviors I am used to seeing from characters like hers. But Maya has not done any of that. Even as she uses her wealth and power to get close to him she fully understands money is not going to buy his love. She wants to make him happy, and she knows only by making him happy she can get his love. That is refreshing because usually Maya like characters in movies and shows don't understand this. They are more obsessed with what they want than another person's happiness. I still think she is wrong, she is certainly manipulative. But I think Maya behaves better than I expected to her to behave, so it makes me think she can indeed grow and change and be exhibit healthy behavior.

I think there is a reason Maya's dad exists in this show. There were many ways to tell us Maya had a terrible childhood without making her dad a constant thorn on her side. Her dad is a literal representation of every internal conflict Maya has because of her past. Once her dad is eliminated I think Maya will change as a person.

Back to Saanjh and her possessiveness. I am such a jealous, possessive friend. But it is one thing to feel these things and it is another to actively make sure all your life that your friend doesn't find another significant person. As more episodes pass by I think Saanjh is that person. What is odd is that other than her dad everyone is okay with that behavior. They even encourage it without Arjun's knowledge.

I am not judging the girls and saying who is right who is wrong. Both are wrong in their own ways. I just think it is interesting that both have their share of serious flaws, yet a light side to them that makes them endearing and relatable.
