Let's not forget that performances aren't cumulatives and that her doing well in UP and DZ doesn't mean that she deserves awards.

I honestly feel UPs popularity got badly affected due to the leak. How I wish more people saw it. I myself saw it on dvd though i had planned to watch on the big screen. But just because the movie didnt garner that much popularity it wont be right to dismiss Alias performance in it. And why I feel she deserved it there was the charachter was so different from what she usually plays. In neerja the story/real Neerja's Bhanots sacrifice was the actual hero more than Sonam (no offence to her as I rly liked her performance) Its just that imo Alia outnumbered Sonam in both her films be it DZ or UP.

PS I never said her performance is good as a cumulative of dz n up, I said earlier sonam was second best performance f d year for me, now its Alia in dz after alia in up.

Alia was really good in both UP and DZ, while she was weirdly squeezed in K&S, where she had no business to be in. Asides Sonam was at her best in Neerja, but it was her best. Not the best this year. I would rank her behind Radhika, Swara, Alia and Vidya. Not to forget Anushka who did fairly good job in ADHM and was excellent in Sultan.

Alia any day is a better actress then Sonam . I agree Neerja was Sonam's finest performance but not the performance of year . Aalia has shown maximum growth in terms of acting skills as compared to her colleagues both male & female .

I completely agree! I especially loved her in the part you mentioned in your post. Her breakdown scene itself is worthy of an award. It reminded me of Veera Tripathi, but definitely miles better. She keeps improving herself with regards to her craft. Initially I was annoyed with her over exposure and the fact that she kept playing the same kind of roles. But UP and DZ changed my opinion abt her. Both Kiara/MJ are two strong performances of the year, imo both trumped Sonam's performance as Neerja. Sonam had the advantage of playing a heroic role, a lovable role, a role almost everyone would feel sympathetic about. Alia didnt have this advantage but she totally made me a fan of Kiara/MJ. Sonam's performance as Neerja was her best, still I feel it couldnt beat Alia's performances. I am actually glad she is winning awards, was rather unhappy she got awards for Highway but this time this girl totally deserves it.
