Ok! I'm starting to write then
There were sweat-beads swarming on his forehead already. ACP Randhawa had been in such situation way too many times in his life, but never had he felt so nervous like he was feeling right then. Please, not her. Not like this. This wasn't fair. He had not yet got his fair chance of protecting her like he promised he would and he could already feel the guilt weighing down on his heart. ACP went stiff for few seconds but as soon as he recovered, he rushed to the scene.
"Everyone remain in your places. No one moves" he spoke commandingly. There were a handful of people who had gathered in the open air prayer ground, the place from where the noise came. "I'm a cop. There's nothing to worry about."
"A masked man...he -he fled" Guru-ji spoke as he walked up to ACP. His hands were trembling and it was evident from his face that the incident has rendered him in shock.
"Is..is anybody hurt?" ACP threw the question at the crowd's general direction but his eyes were cautiously scanning through the faces trying to locate Priyanka.
She wasn't there.
ACP felt a wave of relief. She wasn't hurt. This was close. The shooter hadn't fired the bullet aiming at any particular person since there was no case of injury within the people. ACP asked the people to clear the space and looked around for a bullet-shell but did not find any. This meant the bullet had been fired in air. I think I know what is going on.
"How-how did he get in here? Why would he try to attack a place like ours?" Guru-ji hurled questions at ACP, his voice still shaky.
"It's a warning" he replied curtly, his eyes still on the ground.
Guru-ji was taken aback by what ACP had just said. A warning? In his ashram?
"Guru-ji, please do not worry. I'll make sure there's security in every gate of this Ashram effective today onwards" ACP said. His voice was promising and seemed to help Guru-ji regain composure.
"Yes, child. It is something I should have done already" Guru-ji said, nodding his head in accord. "We cannot let terror disrupt the harmonious ambience of our Ashram. I should go check on the others."
"Yes, Guru-ji" ACP replied.
"And to all those present here," he continued, reclaiming strictness. "Please remain in your rooms and avoid ambling in the grounds unless the security forces become effective. Its an order."
As he watched the crowd disperse, ACP felt this sudden urge to see her and before his mind could even decide upon it, he found himself walking towards her dorm.
When he reached her room, he found the door slightly ajar.
"Miss Oberoi?" he called for her, knocking on the door.
No reply.
He alternated between entering the room and waiting for some more time but at the same time, he felt anxiety root inside him. Was she alright? Was she even inside? Did the man abduct her?
His instincts compelled him to push the door open and as he stepped inside the room, preparing for the worst.
At first he thought she wasn't here; that the room was empty. But then his eyes fell on the half-packed suitcase on the bed and few pieces of garments lying around it. As he proceeded further, his vision spanned over the bed, to the floor on the other side where she sat, shaking in her position.
"Miss Oberoi- " he gasped, walking towards her. He squatted beside her and took her hand in his, forcing her to look his way. "No one is going to harm you."
There was only fear in her eyes. She winced at his touch and he felt her pull her hand away.
"D-don't touch me" she stammered. He sighed.
"She is going to get me. I shouldn't have.." she continued speaking with shaky voice.
"You did the right thing, Miss Oberoi" ACP comforted her. "And it is my duty to protect you from now onwards."
"No, sir. Th-thank you" Priyanka replied brusquely, her voice suddenly sharpening. "I -don't need you or -your pity."
ACP flinched at the last sentence. She stood up from her place, trying to hide how scared and broken she actually was and proceeded with packing her bags.
"Now if you'll excuse me. I have work to do." She continued.
"What do you think you're doing?" he asked her, his tone commanding.
"I'm packing my -bags" she spoke without looking at him as she folded her clothes with trembling hands. "I'm le-leaving tonight."
"What happened suddenly, Miss Oberoi? Why are you behaving so strange?" ACP Randhawa felt himself get worked up as he hurled questions at her, which she chose to ignore.
"You're.Not.Going.Anywhere." he spoke again, this time seizing her attention by snatching away the piece of clothing that she was holding.
"-I am," she answered, unyielding to his commanding tone. "Please -don't waste my time."
Randhawa sighed as she took back her dupatta from him.
"I can't let you go outside alone tonight. Please Miss Oberoi, its not safe."
"-Youre wasting your -time" she replied. "I -can take care of myself, ACP Randhawa. Th-thank you. You should go."
She stood in her place as she watched him storm out of the room. This is what you wanted.
