We've been changing constantly in terms of cultural values and way of living.

I was looking some oldies on youtube and found one of my all time fav "I love you because" by Jim reeves. it was a video of a concert held in 1964.. ofcourse upside down changes could be noted in that concert ....

Are we really going in forward direction in evolution of civilization as a whole everywhere around the globe?

I intentionally posted a western music concert cause we always blam west to destroy our values. To me they are equally affected.

Another aspect of this transition ..what do you think is it really the media which is affecting society or it is infact society itself ..and media is just showing the picture of it . 😊

Media reflects what the society wants or are interested in...what is in, sells...media is also business ...arthath (conclusion) ... its society itself...but unable to understand whats wrong in change for good?

See .... to my understanding change is inevitable , with time. Good or bad depends upon its impact on society I am not saying everything which is changed is bad. but on some aspects specially related to fine arts and culture I m confused to call it progression...

for eg... use of language is a step ahead of just voices, fine tuning of language is another step ahead of plain language.

same way , born naked, initially, had difficulty to cover due to unavailibility then one step ahead development of garment industry , another step fine clothes....

now apparently ..... we are all bored with this and now going back to plain language in supposedly "fine arts" and shedding clothes too.

To me media serves as a medium to fulfill fantacies rather than projecting the accurate picture of society.😊

any other thought on it ?

I think media and society share a cyclic relationship.

Society influences media as media reflects society. You did not see the Sex and the City type independent woman shows in the fifties, nor do you see the Andy Griffith style small town atmosphere in modern times. Music in the sixties represented the hippie culture, with protest songs, freedom inspired music etc, music nowadays represents the next generation rebellion, emo etc.

Society on the other hand is influenced by media at the same time. People consciously or subconsciously want to be like characters portrayed or live similar lifestyles. Haircuts, clothing, personalities are imitated. Kids pick up new fads, trends etc from media.

Like the line from the youtube video 'Must be emo'
"I'm as non-conforming as non-conforming can be, you'd be non-conforming too if you were just like me"

When it comes to media things have changed a lot. Change just happens. I would not consider it as progress or regress on the whole, as media as a whole has not caused society to progress or regress. Yes there are elements of media that maybe considered regressive or progressive, but on the whole it is just change.

Intersting, recently in an interview with the Time magazine Stephen King was asked "who is the person of the year?" He gave a very good reply by saying it should be Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan as people like them eat up all the focus from media, instead of focusing into what White House is doing in Iraq, how the money is being spend and other real issues like that.

Media mirrors the society is true to a large extent

but media doesnt realise that it has the power and reach to initiate societal change...

why do they reinforce the negatives- repeated telecast of celebrity controversy reinforcing voyerism, gossip etc etc, special programs on crime reporting where graphic details are given in the guise of dramatic recontructions giving new ideas to potential criminals..

I firmly believe that if aaj tak, Zee news and Star news started repeatedly hyping Indian classical music it could be the next fad...but they choose the easy way out and stand outside Amitabh bachchan's bungalow rather than go out and do research for a story which could have an impact

just MHO
