Hi everyone!
It's been a while since I posted but I thought it was time I did tonight. As per plan, I should have last night, but oh well. This isn't going to be beautiful, or poetic. This is what I think. And my opinion that I will justify as far as I can so no bashing.
Also, CN: Rape, Sexual harassment, abuse, kidnapping
No, I do not think what Shivaay did was out of character; no I do not think it was romanticised; no, i do not think he detests Anika; no, I do not think he would have hurt Sahil.
What I saw between yesterday and today, was a desperate man who needed to use all he had, of considerable money and influence, to convince a woman to marry him as a replacement bride.
What I saw was a man whose plans were laid to waste by a woman who did not care nor understand an iota of what it meant for him, or his family, to be married into a particular family.
What I saw was her practically( according to him) being needed to resolve a situation created by her own self.
No, I did not like Anika doing what she did. She had no right to interfere, yes, but she could not have influenced an easily overpowered girl either.
I am very disturbed at the words being thrown around here. Yes, manhandling is an important and very sensitive trope in Hindi shows, but it has NOT been romanticised in this show, and RAPE? Mentally SICK? BIPOLAR? PSYCHO?
These are terms that are more important and nuanced than they are just played out to be, sure even in television, but the posts I saw yesterday were scary.
People NEED to educate themselves on the things they are saying. These are NOT words to be uttered so casually.
RAPE and physical abuse have insinuations with power and domination AS much as sexuality, and I'm afraid I saw NONE of that at all in the episode yesterday.
I saw abuse today, I saw Shivaay emotionally abusing Anika, and I saw him feeling equally sad about it. I saw it in his expressions when he ran after her, hoping and praying he reaches her to restrain before she gets hurt. I saw a reflection of her devastation in his eyes as she hit him, and then just broke down against him, and he had to restrain her in his own way, but gently, just enough so she doesn't harm him or herself. But, she did, with every tear, she harmed him. He knew what Sahil's absence would do, and he ruthlessly used it. Why?
The word people need to check out is Amorality. Please. I need people to look it up because shivaay is that. ONE of the major implications of the term is: Right and wrong matter ONLY when it comes to a family member, or family in general. For instance, the mafia.
There needs to be an understanding that there are people whose sense of morals DOES not involve ANYONE beyond their family, and that is ALSO OKAY.
That doesn't imply they are the devil, or a beast.
We do not have to agree with that point of view but it exists.
For BOTH shivaay and Anika, their family, their brothers, ARE the ultimate, that's their weak point, their selfishness, and they can BOTH use it against each other.
ALL I could see in shivaay today was desperation and pain; NO iota of ego. And those who do, god, show me, because it doesn't exist. NOTHING mattered to him beyond the fact that he was disappointed when he danced with his happy family because he felt he would need to hurt them. And he could not do that.
Did you guys SEE how beautifully she broke down in his arms, when she thought there was no one left, there was no Sahil in the world.
Despite it all, despite him, and however he is, HE is the one she could break down with, he was the one who would be able to control her, to bring out in her, the survivor, because he needed her to be strong enough for him to be stronger for now.
And that regret: She just won't get it. She would NEVER get why he did it.
Love is a very easy word to utter; I'd say I battle every day between love and truth; but to make it a verb: To Love, is the hardest action in the world, and Shivaay and Anika are exactly on that colon between noun and verb of Love and To Love.
I do not believe we can stop loving someone, but our feelings transform. I do not expect this nuance, but the way they liked each other will alter from how they will like each other in the future.
I do not know even now if this covered everything, but I don't think I can write anything more without being romantic, so I'll leave it for comments.
Love
