Priyanka watched in stunned silence as the tall man bent down before her and reached a hand out to take the bleeding foot. A rising awkwardness gripped her and she stood up with a jerk. An immediate burst of pain made her wobble and she couldn't quite hide the grimace it drew from her in response.

He was up in a flash, steadying her, drawing her back to the seat. His grasp on her arm was firm and yet light. Despite her warring emotions, she found herself sitting down while he poured some water from her bottle on the injury.

She studied his bent head, the complete focus with which he tended to the wound and felt her eyes tear up. She remembered Guruji's words. Back in Mumbai he had been the monster who wished nothing more than to destroy her peace and her brother's happiness. But here in the midst of this peace and quiet, she felt strangely like this was the only person who would be able to understand her, able to help her.. Not because he was a police officer but because he was pursued by the same demons that held her in chains.
