And thanks for the bits about the preponed wedding... it was quite obvious the makers were taking creative liberty there...

Will read the detailed links soon...

Thanks for your hard work, Abhay..

It is always great to have your views on my threads.

Coming to the show, LOT of liberty is taken.
The marriage pre-poning is one such thing.

I am confident you found the post informative.
You're most welcome. :)

Thank you. There are many more pictures (other than the ones posted on page-2), with different themes related to women ; can be found in various ancient temples in the South.

Alexander fighting an Indian Queen

Women took part in wars in ancient India, as already listed in the main post. Alexander while marching into India had to fight with a principality in the North West which had female contingents in it ; the king had died and the queen and her daughter commanded the army and kingdom after his death.

It was a siege like the Chittor battle of Akbar. Alexander took 9 days to start the building of a tower and encircle the fort " after which he ordered that archers and slingers should be stationed on top of the tower and force the defenders of the fort from the ramparts. Just like Akbar. Easy to understand for those who have an idea of siege warfare.

Greek historian Curtius tells us about the Queen ( of a city which is called in modern day, as the Kafiristan city of Afghanistan) fighting against Alexander.

The Queen inspired the women of her kingdom to fight along with the troops. The forces of the Queen totaled over 75,000 - 38,000 infantry and 30,000 cavalry in addition to 7000 mercenary forces. After a long siege Alexander won. Alexander was wounded in shoulder and ankle in this battle. The defeated mercenary forces were massacred till the last person alive.

Not only did Alexander slaughter the entire population, but also did he reduce its buildings to rubbles. A similar slaughter then followed at Ora, another stronghold of the above mentioned Queen.

The adjoining image shows the location of Kafiristan, in green color. According to Greek historians this territory was "India".
