He could hardly listen to the words being thrown at him like arrows from a magical quiver that never emptied. He could barely hear anything over the sound of his own heartbeats. He needed to do something, say something, but what could he say? What could he do?
He saw them, he saw her, and she was...normal. He had nothing to base his judgement on.
After all, she had proved he did not know her at all. So, how could he believe or disbelieve anything anymore? How could he even react without anger to the words he was listening to, from the lips of his ex-friend? He only knew he saw red when Daksh mentioned those papers, and dared to insult Anika so disgustingly, so blatantly, as if she were an object to be bought and sold.
Not only was he relieved when Daksh said he would be leaving; he also felt a pang at his betrayal of Anika. What now?
Had she not done anything out of consent, he may have reacted differently. But he did not understand his reactions at all these days, so how could he even question hers? He had no right to feel bad, but when had the heart done what it was asked to do?
His, in particular, just beat to Anika's name these days, and ignored everything else, leading to a self-destruction so massive it would have repercussions on many lives, including hers, especially hers.
