I partially agree with you... But when I see Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai and Kuch Iss Tarah, I see a HUGE difference... I'm not being biased... KYPH TRP's were low but I still loved it!!! But Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai was an entertaining drama, there was a magic in it... In Kuchh Iss Tarah, there's something missing... The acting of the actress is pretty bad... And so is the boy's one...
Amber Dhara could have been a rocking serial... But they didn't try to make it special... JJKN was different in its story and Amber Dhara sometimes is like other serials... As for Salaam Zindagi, it has none of the masala elements that YMLH used to have...
Now I agree that Sony can still do well... Shows like Kaajjal in the beginning and Vaidehi were really good!!! Especially Vaidehi was rocking!!! Ek Ladki Anjaani Si was also rocking until Shreya started producing it!!! But overall, people are sick of Sony, after they were cheated with Armaan-Jassi's marriage... And Sony tries to bring new shows, and whenever the TRP's pick up, they once again make it like usual dramas and it once again becomes boring!!! They should simply stick to the original plot!!!!!!😉😉😉
You have a point, but the shows are not the only things a channel has to consider. The only reason Jassi worked was because of the way it was packaged from the beginning. I am sure you remember the promos: "Ye Jassi Kaise dikthi hai?" It was a clever dress up. Ye Meri life hai worked because it was a family show; how Pooja had to struggle to break from her father's traditional Guju values. This relates to every person whether they are a father, mother, daughther etc. The bottom line is that all the shows that were a big hit, were about a girl's dreams and her struggles. SZ, KIT and AD are the same concepts, but the reason thety are not working is because Sony haven't packaged them properly, plus Sony has lost to Zee TV.
Enough debating. The bottom line is your article about 9X beating Sony is not accurate. Look @ the recent charts:
| Tvr Ratings from 09/12/2007 to 15/12/2007 |
| Star Plus 33 shows Zee TV 35 shows Sony Entertainment TV 2 shows |
Zee and Star have consumed the majority of the top 100 shows. If there are any other channels in the top 100, it is Sony. Jhalak made the top 50 shows. I think for a channel that is sinking, this is some pleasing result. I don't watch Sony anymore either, but it is very important to clear rumours that nobody watches Sony anymore. C'mon how many people switch channels thinking about TRPs? Plus you can't ignore the fact that whether people watch Sony or not, it will remain a popular channel. When I went India, I asked a couple of people to put in order (with the most watched first) the channels that they think are watched most in India. This is the order they said:
1) Star Plus
2) Sony Entertainmet Television
3) Zee TV
4) Others.
It wasn't a survey or anything. I just asked my family who watch TV regularly.
Surprisingly, all of them watch Zee and Star but this is what they said. Anyway, I enjoyed discussing this channel fever with you.😆
