I know everyone is all up in arms, but this was to be expected. If nothing, Ishwari is a fighter, and she does not take a perceived threat lying down. She is fighting this change tooth and nail because she is so scared of it, and she doesn't care who she hurts in the process because she genuinely believes that she is protecting Dev from being subsumed into Sona's family, and therefore protecting the income of the rest of the family.

As has always been the case when it comes to Sona, the change is the right way forward, and Ishwari is fighting on the losing side. But because she is refusing to even consider where she is wrong, she is going to learn the hard way once again by dragging Dev and Sona through hell and back. Dev can't bear his mother's anger and like you said, he acted impulsively to make sure he removed its root cause.

It is definitely an echo of the break up, but if the break up taught us anything, it's that the manipulation that works so well in making Dev do whatever she wants in the short term, backfires wildly on Ishwari herself in the long run. Had she been more accepting of Dev-Sona before the breakup, she would have had so much more power because Dev would not even have had an inkling about her dislike, but she sabotaged that for herself when she took those sleeping pills, and she's doing it again.

Ishwari thought Sona would be Dev's toy, but she didn't bargain for the fact that Dev didn't just need Sona physically there, he needs her to be happy, and for her to be happy Sona requires certain things from Dev. If Ishwari prevents Dev from making Sona and her family happy when he is more than willing to do so, then she is holding him back from his own happiness. That ignites the much needed fire of frustration within Dev, something that only happens with Ishwari stoops this low.

Don't despair, people. This is going to backfire in a MAJOR way. Ishwari is playing with fire, and she won't realise how dangerous it is until the entire house is burning. She's overplaying the guilt hand, and it will begin to lost its effect as a result. Just wait and watch. 😉
