Why plagiarism on a space like India forums- I am pretty new to this space though, but what I don;t understand is: what do you make out of it- we write here, because we want to share our stories, our feelings about how the show should go- simple isn't it?And to put all kinds of fantasies that we do. It's not like we are getting some profit out of it.
It's plainly what i'll call- may be soul satisfaction- but then, if the story and thinking is not yours, what's the point of even penning it down, and more importantly why would you want to waste time into that rather than spending time on hundreds of other things.
To cut the long story short- i can really not understand why someone would plagiarize, that's beyond my understanding.

Maybe when you come across social sites like IF, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and many sites as such where you find people who share your tastes in serial, opinions, and many such things. You get into a group, like those groups we used to be part of in school-the difference is here's no Cool gang or such. Finding people and befriending them on internet is a mammoth task in itself. Then you see the creativity around- someone makes VM, someone is very active and in touch with every FC admin possible, someone writers, someone makes edits. You sit back , clap and enjoy, but a part of you nag that why can't you do them? So you try to. Editing is hard, VM takes time and a machine who can support it. Writing looks easy, or is it? Drooling with friends about best scenes and expressions of leads is easy, thinking them over and over in head, from a writers POV, polishing each word of each line, then gathering the courage to post it for everyone's scrutiny? The horror! And if somehow you don't get the desired result, not like your friends get when they write even a 500 word update, somehow it's not up to mark, what you can do? Whatever we are in the real world, we become monsters online. Nobody to see our faces, nobody to judge. We are more aggressive, more daring, more ferocious. Immoral, even, thinking we are invincible. So what if it is not working? So what if you can't write as good as your group? You will go find something that's already on the internet and just replace the people name with characters. Imagine Mohabbatein in Ishqbaaz- Amitabh Bachan is Tej, Aishwarya is Anika, Raj is Shivay. So interesting, so unique!
And we are here to blame. Imagining a movie or book on your favorite characters is no crime. Fifty shades and such books were born out of that process. But imagine if you actually pick a paragraph from Twilight book and just change Edward Bella's name? It sounds copying, or is it? You are just imagining your characters in that, what's the harm? Similarly you find a lesser known Fanfiction hidden in the 180th page of Anime forum in AO3. You change characters name and put Shivay Anika Omkara Rudra. Is not that same as being "inspired"? You are not actually benefitting from it, it's just for fun. You are not getting money or anything. Nobody wrote that earlier fic anyway. What's the fuss about? It's exactly same like what others do! You didn't do anything different. You just moulded it to suit your characters. Just used find and replace and enjoyed the adulation. Now you are as good as your group, congrats!
You don't get why everyone is fussing on it. Nobody bats an eyelash when people post poorly written grammatically incorrect paragraphs which are poor excuses of Fanfiction. Okay okay, maybe you made a mistake, you should have tried harder to find a lesser known Fic. You can't become a writer, a thinker overnight, can you? Everyone should give you a break, "forgive" , galti to ho hi jati hai? They are not agreeing, how dare they?! Can't they see you are actually sad. Regretting your deed? You can't even post in your favorite forum, have to lurk around in other sites to pass time and read accusations on yourself. It had to be a conspiracy, who the hell was that newbie anyway? How did that member even found it, you were careful. Everyone is jealous of your crowd, of yourself. You were after all the leader, right? How dare they snatch it from you, you worked hard for it dammit!
You read the comments and fume. But you have a reputation to protect, so you don't come out. Apology for what, and to whom? These awful people who did your character assassination? Hell no. You search for new fics, but you learnt your lesson. You won't post in this shitty website. You will open s blog and PM only a few well chosen fanatics of yours. That will surely work, right? You will change your UN and erase your Signature box, a clean slate just to be cautious.
To the member I quoted and just rambled on, plagiarism is not limited in India forums only. You look around in other forum sites, Facebook Fanfiction group, 80% of them are copied word to word from some novel or fic. You just have to google a few lines to find out. A good thing about IF is at least a section of us realize what's right and wrong, realize a writer's POV when a theft like this occur. The ignorance and indifference in those sites are sickening.
The the TM, I salute you. It must have taken courage to post like this and I am glad at least now people coming out and supporting you. I hope for your sake a suitable action is taken.
