Hi All-
Happy Deepavali/ Diwali to all! Wishing you all bright days of happiness, peace, and prosperity.
So, I am back with my next thread for week of October 24th. It is week three of the serial and it is already going full steam ahead.
This week had its share of funny moments ... Chandra (or was it Rajat) making fun of his own skirt or Helena tossing over Mohan 2 the Tiger in a way that made you think why Jalal struggled so much ... it is that easy.
That being said- some things like the Greeks dropping their accents sometimes in Hindi can be forgiven - after all the audience needs to understand them. Overall, the drama is still a bit high pitched, but there are a few key points they clearly wanted to convey and it was about the dynamics of the characters that was emerging.
1. Guru Shishya: This week I liked Chandra and Chanakya's increased focus on their mission ... there was less talk and more action. Chandra was in disguise and used tact to make sure no one recognized him ... like using the beehive as an escape to beeline from being discovered by the Magadh family. While his lapses of being outspoken seemed off, they did help win the attention and trust of Helena, which may have been more difficult if he had been more discreet. He quickly got promoted from cooking department to army and in the precap he is already working on dividing the army's loyalties.
Chanakya, on his part, is working to bring together support for Chandra and shows he is maybe even better a master of disguise than his shishya. I liked the scene where they both tricked the Greek spies behind Chandra and got them out of their way.
They never fail to marvel us with their chemistry👏
2. Saheli bani Sauten (I am surprised there is no movie by this title, there should be) : Helena is a quirky character (as Chitti described) obsessed about love (shown with the crazy encounter with both the rabbit and tiger) but what was interesting was her relationship with Nandini. They started off as enemies of the sword turned friends turned "sauten" rivals in a period of three days. Ironically, they will be sauten ... but Maleyketu would not be the common man in their life. Instead, it would be Chandra. Helena who claims she never would want to be "second" to anyone , would be one of Chandra's many wives (with Durdhara making an entry, I do not know which wife is which number anymore). She already hates Nandini for taking away Malayketu from her. Hence, the dynamics between Helena and Nandini will get increasingly more complex once they are both married to Chandra. Ekta's vamp making formula is in full form it seems.
I have started liking her. She is a woman with a goal in her life and will never give up until she gets what she wants😃
When Helena says she wants to be Queen of Magadh- I assume she wanted to marry into the Magadh family? Maybe I didn't capture that correctly; but eventually she will be Queen of Magadh but married to Chandra.
Overall, I felt people were foreshadowing the right things, but they weren't going to happen the way they expected.
3. Yeh Rishta Kya Hai (because still unclear where this is going): Another interesting angle was Chandra and Helena. Helena has begun to trust Chandra, for first saving her life, then being the voice of consolation when she was rejected by Malayketu. While Chandra got to tell his signature line of how love makes you weak, this seems to be more his plan to win her trust than a distraction from original mission.
That's the main point!!
What will be interesting is Helena's reaction to who Chandra really is- will she view his "Dushyant" days as a betrayal to her and take revenge on Chandra or will she be obsessed about Chandra (like the rabbit), which will make her more an adversary to Nandini and Durdhura? Or maybe, she will make all their lives miserable and all of us too?
That would be very interesting to see that, although I think she will admire him more😉
4. Hum Tum (why Hum Tum, well cause they keep meeting and whenever they do, something keeps going wrong just like the movie) : Chandra and Nandini's saga continues ... while they both hate each other, Nandini is thinking back about him with a sword fight with his dummy and their paths keep crossing to Chandra's annoyance. I found it funny how Chandra got to already put the paayal on Nandini's foot (this Jodi is very advanced- sword fight, khoon bhari maang, and even paayal already done).
There's anger, annoyance, but not hate, yet. As Shyamala aunty said, the seeds of hatred are being sown, but once Chandra comes to know his true heritage, the hatred will come in all its might.
Of course on the other hand, destiny always makes Chandra save Nandini as he himself reflects. While Nand wants to marry Nandini off to Malayketu to make sure her future is secure and it is Malayketu assuring Nand he will always protect Nandini, it is Chandra who is saving Nandini from the bandits as Malayketu arrives late.
Do I sense a repeat of Chandra saying to Nandini- "I will save you from the world, but who will save you from me"? Of course, he wouldn't say the word "mehfooz", hopefully.
5. Love square: The most interesting is likely how these characters will move forward together- Malayketu, Helena, Nandini, and Chandra.
Malayketu and Chandra want to rule Magadh, for very different purposes.
Nandini senses something amiss with Malayketu but goes with her Dad's decision. If only she knew he was Helena's "yuvraaj", she may have happily given him away.
Malayketu discards Helena, questioning her status, where she will end up being one of Chandra's queen's.
Helena wants to be Queen of Maghada and take revenge while Nandini still thinks they are best of friends.
I continue to like Nandini's chirpy, light-heartedness- she seems to offset the drama of the other three corners of the square. It suits the spoilt daughter, raised like a son- she is supposed to be.
And so these characters are intertwined in more than one way ...
You know Chitti and I discussed a potential twist- could it be that Malayketu is behind Nand's death or some other atrocity that Nandini was blaming Chandra for all of it? Wouldn't that be an Ekta-wala twist?
Regardless, this is going to be quite the roller coaster to untangle ...
Hope you like ... err enjoyed the take. Look forward to your thoughts!
