You can't make people love you in the way you want them to. That's what Ayan had to learn in the end..which is why his love was was unrequited. You also can't help but fall in love with people..it's out of your control. That applies to basically Alizeh, Ayan, Saba and Tahir lol..aka everyone. They may not be ideal for you but that doesn't stop you from loving them.
And I think this film actually sides with the entire pyar dosti hai concept from KKHH...in that love doesn't always have to be on the basis of romance..that's exactly what Alizeh had to explain to Ayan.

Basically all the characters in the movie were so selfish and borderline frivolous...! There's something called compromise in life too! Kjo loves these love squares... 😆SRK loves Aish => Aish doesn't so she leaves him.Aish loves Ranbir => Ranbir does not so they part ways.Ranbir loves Anushka => Anushka doesn't so she friendzones him.Anushka loves Fawad => Fawad is a cheater and doesn't give two hoots about Anushka. And then there's cheaters Lisa and Imran... 😆😆😆

She wasn't physically attracted to him. That's why they had their early sequence of them kissing and her start to laugh because she wasn't turned on by him at all. Same concept as Rani and Abhishek in KANK. She even calls him her brother at one point.
Unfortunately both Anushka and Ranbir's characters seemed frivolous to me also. Young overprivileged rich people drinking and jumping around partying meaninglessly with nothing of value within themselves. Even their supposed pain made me want to roll my eyes. I think that's why KJo stuck in the manipulative last twist to make their story seem IMPORTANT because now there was something besides their frivolous first world problems.
