Misogyny and Male Chauvinism in the land of goddesses

Today's episode and one scene in particular touched upon an issue I feel strongly against. Demeaning a woman for her choices, making her feel ashamed of herself for the fact that she she speaks her mind, knows what she wants and asks for it is in no way an act of 'shamelessness'.
This issue is prevalent even today maybe not just in our country, but all over the world. Still,it is much more ironic in our case,as we worship a million goddesses in our country.

And what's even more unfortunate is the fact that as women ourselves,we don't stand up for each other more often than not.

Woman is a woman's worst enemy when this happens. mothers should teach their sons to respect every woman and not just his mother.

Studies have proved that the rape culture is less to do with the sexual act itself and more to do with the need to establish strength and power over the woman.

We as a society fail time and again because unless this mentality surrounding a 'bold' woman doesn't change, nothing ever will.

What kind of feelings did Malay even have for Helena in the first place? I'm forced to assume that it was always superficial. At first I believed he wanted to gain something from the Macedonians, but Malay dismissed that(very strongly so).

Then why was he with Helena? Because she seems 'easy'? I understand the times were different back then, but still, why is it that a woman who doesn't fit to societal norms considered a 'characterless woman'?

So what we encourage as a society is a woman who has no voice of her own? Why?

You know when I saw the rabbit scene the other day Helena seemed overly obsessive, but now I can understand where that comes from. Her insecurities lies from the fact that she has been made to feel ashamed from various sources we don't know about. So she seeks comfort from wherever she can.She has her guards up otherwise. Why is that? Because she feared exactly what happened today.

Leaving all that aside,Malay mentioned royal blood today.i get that. But I don't buy that lie. He never gave her any importance, royal blood or not. He's a male chauvinist and womaniser at that.

The last few lines about Desh Bhakti seemed legit, but denying a woman her dignity was uncalled for. This, being a woman he claimed to love. So were her actions surprising at all?She demanded her rights and was left feeling empty.

Ps : Though at first there was a lot of screaming and yelling, the most of the scene was very well executed by Chetan ( I saw hints of Bhimdev today. That menacing glare makes you very uncomfortable. If he works a bit more on voice modulation, he can do so much better )

I have not seen the episode. But the issue you have raised is very valid. Malay need not have carried on the affair if he was not interested in her. Helena never forced him to love her. It was his choice and he chose her.

Nationality, linguistics, or geography had nothing to do with it. It was a simple love affair at the man-woman level. His choice could have changed with time while hers might not have with time. He could have pleasantly and politely put it forth and taken the brunt of her anger. That would have been standing up for yourself and manly stuff.

If at all he puts the onus for this on Helena and shames her, it only shows his hypocrisy, double standards, male chauvinistic mindset, and what an apology of a human being Malayketu is.

Though I feel sad for Helena for meeting with such a disappointment in love, I can console myself by telling that Chandra will never treat her like that after marriage whether he loves her or not. He will always respect and esteem her as an equal individual.

Chandra and Helena may never love each other but all the same they will share a very meaningful and unique bond of friendship and companionship, two individuals who share pain, loneliness and emptiness with each other, two people who try to drive away the darkness from the life of their life partner and bring light to it, though they might remain forever in darkness. Ghosh! I sound like a FF writer. I must control myself!

PS: Does Malay actually have a character to call somebody characterless? I don't think so!

Exactly my point! He is a coward. Doesn't have the guts to tale responsibility for his own actions.

If at all he puts the onus for this on Helena and shames her, it only shows his hypocrisy, double standards, male chauvinistic mindset, and what an apology of a human being Malayketu is.

Few more points I'd like y'all to ponder over
1) What kind of Desh Bhakti is Malay talking about, when his dynasty has invited the Macedonians to their very land?

2)Chandra who strongly is against emotions in general, has unconsciously given so much insight into its importance. He gives Helena two very important lessons. Firstly, that her tears will mean little to others. Most of them may pretend to show concern, but deep down they couldn't care less. Secondly,he tells her to forget about those who wronged her, because it will do nothing except cause her more pain.

Chandra knows more about emotions than he realises.

Well said and i agree with you on your views on every aspect from malay helena scenes from yesterday's episode..
These male chauvinism kind of attitude prevails even today and its a shame.. There are men who considers themselves superior to the women lot and what to add more?
You have written everything perfectly
