The Patliputra Chronicles: Helena: An unexpected variable in CN

First things first! When Helena was introduced in the story, my jaws dropped. Firstly, it was anachronistic and ahistorical. Secondly, she is not the same age as Chandra. She must have been younger than him by a decade or so! But when I think about the many fictional elements in CN, I decided to take this one twist also along with the earlier twists.

But what put me off initially was the fact that here in CN she looks a bit older than Rajat does. She looks more suited with Malayketu and shares more chemistry with him kind of stuff. It was then I realized that all this was intentional. Since Malay and Helena were in relationship it was obvious that at least initially she would look more compatible with Malay.

According to history, she is going to be Chandra's second wife as well. Then she was given that Rabbit introduction scene. It was interesting and intriguing. She is not a simple character. She is grey shaded. Her love affair with Malay was another twist.

So we never know when Helena will ultimately end up marrying Chandra as she does after the Chandra and Nandini marriage, she might do it to snatch away Nandini's share of happiness from her just as Nandini unwittingly snatched her love from her.

The actress playing Helena's character is also doing a good job. Nandini is not going to grow up any time soon out of her Nand Priya Putri and Chulbuli Ladki Zone. She is like an LP stuck in the same spot. Though not princess like in her behavior, she doesn't spout a Bhashan and is not Mahaan. Those are big mercies from CVs when they are writing a female lead sparing the viewers a lot of sleepless nights.

So in the meanwhile, why not enjoy a three dimensional and believable character, who though might go on to be the antagonist in the Chandra and Nandini love story, for the present! She spices up things, and moreover we do not have to wade through layers of make up and artificial jewelry to catch her facial expressions unlike Nandini who is covered in mounds of them, acts well, and looks more of a proper princess or royal lady in her bearing and demeanor. She is like an unexpected variable in this story. But she is definitely making an impact!

I am pleasantly surprised by how Helena's character is being shaped. She can bring major havoc in future is she wants to. She's fiesty andI like that about her.

Yes! Fiesty is the word! What is wrong in a woman character being spunky? This Malay just time passed with her. Leave alone marrying her only, he is not at all going to marry her. If she expects him not to treat her like trash and be accountable towards their relationship, nothing wrong in that! Let's see if she remains grey even in future or turns pitch black in character! I like this grey shaded Helena better.

Exactly! Its so unfortunate that women are treated that way. Even now, most guys show interest in the so called "easy" girls, but when it comes to marriage, they want a "gharelu" aurat, when they themselves are a disgrace to the society.

I am confused who will be mother of bindusara? As the main heroine can't die because of that.😕

Shailaja my dear,

When will you make a habit of PMing me about your posts? I stumbled on this by pure chance, as I rarely visit the forum.

As for this one, I agree with all of it. As I wrote in my last thread, the best scenes in the 3 episodes Nos. 13-15 were those between Chandragupta and Helena. I am going to discuss them in detail in my next.

Helena is a dangerous woman, not a silly girl. She reminded me, vaguely, of Medea in the Greek tale of Jason and the golden fleece.

The actress playing her was also surprisingly convincing, both in her last scene with an oblivious Nandini, and in two segments with Chandragupta. In the latter of the two, she did very well, with seething rage twisting her features as she speaks of exacting dire revenge against both Malayaketu and Nandini.
