Uttara's in-laws rather mom-in-law doesn't seem like a decent person. She seems to be using the previous failed (almost) marriage of Uttara to get all her demands. Asking for dowry (which is legally as well as etically wrong), keeping conditions about the d-i-ls of other (MM) family!

Why are the MM family so desperate to wed Uttara off to such a family? For Sujhata, dowry etc might be okay but what about DP or Sanskar? They should be firmly against it rather than being so submissive.

i agree uttara mother in law seems harsh
but no offence, are mother in laws ever nice? i know friends and people who have such bad in laws, but they are lucky they have a supportive husband so i hope uttara husband will support her as she already suffered in life from a failed marriage, her mother in law needs to fix up

About Uttara's mil's orthodox views, it's still subjective. Something which is conservative for me maynot be for another girl. That's something a couple in particular and the family by extension should navigate through - like what's okay, what's not. So yeah, as you said, a supportive husband goes a long way in leading a happy life.

But I would draw the line at dowry. That's plain wrong - no matter how regressive or progressive one is in their thoughts. Right now no one in MM is in their right frame of mind but the SR sisters have picked on the mil's behaviour and demands. Lets see how they react, going forward.
