Just as Chinese products enjoy a great demand in the Indian market, Bollywood films enjoy a great viewership in Chinese theatres. The latest film to prove this point is Shah Rukh Khan's 2014 film Happy New Year.

A still from Happy New Year. Agencies.

The makers of the film Red Chillies Entertainment are in discussions with a Chinese producer for the remake rights of the film for a huge sum of money.

And who would be playing the role of Shah Rukh in the Chinese re-make?

DNA reports, "Hong Kong's second-highest earning actor Chow Yun-fat, known for his collaborations with filmmaker John Woo in A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, and for his roles as Li Mu-bai in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Sao Feng in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, will be playing Shah Rukh's role in the film."

While Indian films have been popular there for decades now in the past few years, films like Baahubali and PK have drummed up substantial business from China.

Baahubali opened in 6,000 screens across China, and as per reports, had done great business at the box office there.

A Business Standard report says that Aamir Khan- starrer PK also went on to create history on the Chinese soil by becoming not only the first movie to cross the Rs 100-crore mark at the Chinese box office, collecting Rs 107 crore ($16.68 million) since its release, but also becoming the first Bollywood film to rake in such numbers in an overseas territory.

The original Hindi Happy New Year had also created history in China by becoming the first Indian film to get a release in the neighbouring country within months of its Indian release. While the film released in India in October it hit the Chinese screens in little over three months in early February. It was released in around 5,000 screens and collected $500,000 at the Chinese box office.

Why are people feeling sorry for the Chinese? They are the ones asking for it, not like they are being thrusted with it😆 Or people think their love for Shahrukh is so strong that they are blindly purchasing a movie of his without knowing whats in it?😆
