Don't know about movies before 90s. 90s were pretty bad in my opinion. Over the top everything. Sexual harassment was seen as a normal thing.
I think this era has the best movies. The people who say this era is worst for kissing and "nudity" make me laugh. Kissing doesn't make movies bad. It is embarrassing that our society is so conservative that we think kissing makes a movie bad. As for nudity, I am starting to think we don't know what nudity means. I have yet to watch a bollywood movie where someone was nude, maybe Ranveer's naked butt will finally open this category for me.

It is true that it is hard to find films to watch with your family. Sometimes it is irritating when I can't watch good movies with my parents because I know certain scenes would make us uncomfortable, but that does not mean the movie is mad.

The problem is people suffer from "when I was a young kid rose was red, grass was green and sky was blue" syndrome. 90s and 80s and early 00s had same type of plot running around. Plus cringeworthy rape scenes were staple. While there were obviously good movies in between, but mostly it was a great movie coming and people copying it to make 10 more movies like that. Today we get varied type of stories and acting is also more stuble/natural than the cartoonish OTT acting we saw in 80s and early 90s. The only thing missing in this era is the volume of good time pass movies with good comedy. Today's masala movies are mostly forgettable apart from few like Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore and Singham, which have become a part of today 's pop culture, and it is not to be mistaken most of the memorable masala movies today are south remakes. I am talking about the usual hero saves the world all alone kind of the masala movies. Apart from comedy genre, BW today is much superior to the previous eras content wise. Plus with the growth of globalisation and Internet, movie industry has lost much of its charm and position of being solo/major entertainment provider it had previously, because of which most people think today's movies are boring, because they have choice of option. when you have choice of option, everything looks blah.

Def. 80s.. but I was a kid and my motto was to watch any and every movie I get a chance to. 😃 If I were an adult I would have given up on BW altogether for good.
It sucked.. really.

@ bold yes nudity and kissing is fine. the fact that people get mad over it is silly. it is 2016 now! even old films had some bold scenes for their times. anyway, my problem isn't nudity but when things are cheap (item songs) and when the film is just plain mindless.
I like that there are so many different types of films these days though. There are some not meant to watch with family and that sucks but, hey good for your down time. ;) Variety is nice.
