There is so much depth in that line, and in what they intended to convey. It is not going to help them if Sona doesn't open up her fears and the depth of hurt each time she is treated as an outsider and it in not going to help them either if Dev doesn't take a stand on his family insulting her. She was already hurt and must have been the most hurt when he himself pushed her away and reverted the decision without even giving her a clue, showing her as an outsider too.

For him, he needed his friend yesterday. Because of the horror of living his past and made guilty of being happy forgetting their past he truly needed space. Because everything was suffocating him and her offer of help was not helping him in that position either. He is going to learn it the hard way because pushing her away is not going to help him when she is the only one who decided to be with him as his support and not responsibility. But things are going to be darker for a while.

You are right he always ends up hurting her. Another reason for that is because he is himself around her and doesn't hold back. In all his other relations whether it's with his mom, his mama mami or even his sisters he doesn't really share his true emotions. His mom has engraved in him that he is the one responsible for all their well being and hence he stays strong in front of them. But in front of Sonakshi he has been shown to be weak, emotional and his true self.
He considers her to be a strong and independent girl and repeatedly called her strong. In fact Sonakshi has always been strong in front of him, even during the breakup she never once broke down like he did in front of her. I hope he realises that she is human after all and can only take so much. Hopefully the Dixit clan don't end up changing the true identity of Dr. Sonakshi Bose. Before it's too late Dev should realize that after marrying her as much as she is responsible for supporting him he also has to support her.
But we know Dev is a little slow in such matters and I have a feeling only after he is witness to the humiliation that she is going through not only from his families side but also now from his side will he step up and do something. Hope it's not too late by then.
