"Amitabh Bachchan Paid Me Rupees 30 as My First Salary," Recollects His Personal Make-up Artist Deepak Sawant

Stars are known to work with people who they feel comfortable with. And once they find their Man Friday, it becomes difficult for the celebrities to let go of them.
One such example being the long lasting association of Bollywood's veteran make-up artist Deepak Sawant and Amitabh Bachchan. The former has been working with Big B since the last 40 years! The two apparently are so used to each other's style of working that they just can't work in separation.
On the occasion of the Pink actor's 74th birthday, we get the ace make-up artist to share blast-from-the-past. And the Big B loyalist opens it all up.
"Amit ji used to pay me Rupees 30 per day as my salary," reveals Sawant, who remembers the day he met Bachchan for the first time as if it happened yesterday. He says, "The first time I met Amit ji was at Mehboob Studio, Bandra. He was shooting Raaste Kaa Patthar at stage number 8. I was working as an assistant then. In my free time, I would tidy up Amit ji's room, keep it clean and beautiful. So much, that every time he would make an entry into the room he would just stare at it for a minute. He liked my professionalism and got me on board."
It was in 1972 that Sawant started working with Bachchan as his make-up artist. Getting happy with his work, he signed Sawant as his personal make-up artist who went on to work with Big B in films like Majboor, Zameer among others.
Sawant who has been working with Bachchan for many years now is happy that the association has only grown stronger over the years. He signs off with a birthday wish saying, "I would like to wish Amitji a happy birthday and I pray to god that our association continues for many years ahead."
