I only got glimpses of scenes because I need to finish my work before leaving. But today's episode was so offensive that I could not stop myself from responding.

Just to show Dixit family and Ishwari in a better light, CVs completely destroyed the entire Bengali culture.

Where do I start?

1. CVs, you have shown Sona to always be honest and straightforward. When Ishwari gave her the lehenga, Sona (the one we have been seeing so far), could have explained that she will be wearing saree with the lehenga dupatta since she already knew that the lehenga was given to her for her wedding. Or even to explain that in Bengali culture, we wear the saree and jewellery from our family and one day later in reception, we wear the saree and jewellery from our in-laws. Either way, it could have prevented a lot of hurt feelings.

But for the sake of drama, you made a hypocrite out of a girl whom you have always showed as honest. Specially after the speech she gave Neha and did not follow when it came to her.

Like I said in my earlier post. It doesn't matter if the gift is worth Rs. 15 or Rs. 150000000. It's the sentiment that matters. It's not a matter of picking the cheapest option available to show money doesn't matter. It's about not being hurtful to another person.

2. Even in Bengali wedding, vegetarian section is on the other side of the room because Bengali people have elderly widows who are as strict vegetarian as any vegetarian community.

So to show the Bose family to be so utterly insensitive to put vegetarian arrangement beside non-vegetarian arrangement just for the sake of creating drama is utterly offensive for the Bengali culture.

3. Since when any wedding planner even give you one petal of a flower for free, let alone a 2-3 kg fish?

Wedding planner won't even give you a extra petal of flower if it's not in your order because everything is paid in advance of wedding. Anything extra means, they won't get paid for that.

And which fish market are open at night where you can get a fresh fish at a short notice. You can't put anything other than fresh fish in the tray because it will stink.

Just like Sushi has to be made with fresh fish for the same reason because if the fish is not fresh, it will stink if raw.

That's why that tray is prepared, sent and donated in the morning. Not at night. Even in a complete Bengali family wedding it doesn't happen.

Again, CVs changed the Bengali culture to create drama.

People can be insensitive in every culture. But here CVs are twisting the cultural norm to deliberately show people as insensitive to another culture is the height of offence.

Would it be acceptable if in Hollywood they show that an Indian pure vegetarian brahmin guzzling Beef Burger? No. Then there will be a war cry on culture appropriation. If the term is unfamiliar CVs, look up in dictionary.

Often, the original meaning of these cultural elements is lost or distorted, which means that these uses may be viewed as disrespectful by members of the originating culture, or even as a form of desecration. > which is exactly what you did.

Bengalis are pretty easy-going about stereotypes you show in the shows. But there is a limit to everything. You can't disrespect one culture for your own gain.

4. Using Dadi Bua was a masterstroke CVs. The people who thought they will hate Ishwari forever, including me, is feeling sorry for her. But again, I have seen elderly people showing their displeasure by quietly whispering to each other. But never have I seen such a rude behaviour in a wedding while the wedding is going on.

CVs, do us a favour and never ever write a script on another culture without proper research. Culture appreciation is fine. Wear Bengali style saree, eat food, butcher the language or create character stereotypes - it's all in the name of entertainment. But don't you ever misuse and misrepresent any cultural norms for your own gain ever. Today you were disrespectful to both cultures.

Sorry for the rant, ladies. But for me, the entire Dev and Sona scenes got lost among all these utterly disrespectful scenes.

You can tell how offended I am that I wrote this post even though I need to get going for my date.

P.S. Thanks for the healthy discussion. My comment is on page 5.

Did not expect a post from you today... Looks like the whole of the wedding atmosphere was massacred.

Rose also felt the same

Very sad state of affair indeed.. I use to watch a English daily soap years ago and even there always the weddings are pictured beautifully with minimal drama. I am no means supporting Western Soaps but pointing out a factor of why Positivity is not celebrated in these shows..or is this only in this show because the CV's have a twisted sense of humor.

Anyways please go enjoy your Date/Dinner as real life is 'BEAUTIFUL'

Totally agree with you. It seems like they are focusing more on negative side than positive one.
The whole wedding seems to be about which side insults other's culture more.

Today's episode was full of stereotypes.

The vows that dev and sona took during neha's wedding seems more beautiful than what they showed today.

Only scene worth watching was VARMALA scene. 🥱

So many unwanted or in related stuff they showed just to show unpleasant wedding. In that direction, they forgot it was leads wedding. They just rushed their scenes as if side actors'. But I am thankful to all the segment aired.. I enjoyed them thoroughly. .those will remain in my mind forever than what it is aired.. The mangalsutra, sindoor Dan beautifully shown in segments.. so thanks to all segments.
Between, just want to know in brahmin house they will never have fish tank?? I was surprised to see such a hullabaloo seeing fish. It was just wrapped fish and it was not cooked..just curious to know.

Also did not understand, why eshwari was not eating. She must have attended business parties with Dev and she must be going to 5 star restaurant to eat. Now only she remember being brahmin. . Cv's wanted to give many negative and unpleasant scenes.. so they filled with this bokwas track

Tia , I agree with you totally ...in fact I made a post stating that it didnt reach the expectation that I thought it would...
when it was agreed that they would do the entire function according to Benagli tradition...why all this drama...Did they want to show inter cast marriages causes tension ??...yes they do cause tension ... I am not denying it...but not to this extent...ppl are not this insensitive...mine an intercast marriage too ( non brahmin married Iyer Brahmin )...looking at this I feel our families were so respectful of each other ...best part both our parents had their set of relatives in control.😉 Only problem was that of language were in we had to pitch in...and yes!! some surprised looks because the entire wedding rituals were different...but no one made such bad remarks so openly...
The only think I liked was the Varmala and the way Dev looked at her while she came into the hall...that scene was the best and the rest of the time..I just switched channel..

height of absurdity was wen a boy started crying because asha and sona's dadi were making ullu sound...not only the boy even dev's sisters and dadi bua were whispering that everyone will get scared by these sounds...dev's sisters saying this is turning into horror was too insensitive...how come rituals create horror...
i hv attended many intercultural marriages...yes there has been arguments, non-acceptance of rituals but i never seen ppl getting scared of another culture's rituals...moreover in a wedding party there r so many sounds then how come one particular sound be scary...

the dixits and their relatives were openly insulting bengali rituals...in real intercultural marriages those who cannot accept other culture's rituals stay away from the mandap but they do not make disparaging remarks...

Looks like from what I am reading in this forum..the much awaited wedding sequence of the beautiful couple was completely overshadowed by crass drama and drama which made mockery of even cultural sensibilities.
I am not even sure what direction this show is heading but it t certainly is sad
