Arshad Warsi is on right the track to have a good 2008. After being appreciated for his performance in the otherwise drab film Goal, Warsi has quite a lot of big films to look forward to next year including Rakesh Roshan's Krazzy 4, Rohit Shetty's Sunday and Golmaal Returns to name a few.
Arshad is currently filming for Shetty's Golmaal Returns in Goa with close friend and co-actor Ajay Devgan. Devgan also stars in Warsi's next film Sunday.
On why he feels their pairing works, Arshad says, "I think Ajay and I have this hit tuning. You know ek cheez uske dimaag se ati hai… ek meri taraf se and I just feel we have a great comfort level. Not many people know this but Ajay Devgan has a very good sense of humour. So one thing comes from my mouth another from his mind and together we end up adding a lot of fun on the sets!"
But having done so many films that play on his comic timing doesn't Arshad worry about being typecast and not being able to do serious roles?
"I never make a conscious decision like that. I listen to a script and if I like it I do it. I go by my gut and instinct so it's not whether it is a comedy film or a serious film. I don't choose on the basis of that…And if you look at Sunday it may be a thriller but it is comedy too," he says.
Arshad adds that his run in the industry has been good largely due to the way he chooses his film. He says that it's never been about the co-stars or the director as far as he is concerned. "I am really passionate about good films. I just like doing good films! That's what's important to me. I don't care about which genre it comes in. Today when the audience goes to see a film they don't see which genre the film belongs to. They don't say that they will only see sports or comedy or serious. If you tell them Chak De is good they will see it. If you say OSO is good they will see it… if you say Goal is good they will see it. As long as the film is good they will see it. Munnabhai… Golmaal… and I am also like that… if the script is good I will do it. If it is comedy I will do it. If it is serious I will do it."
But given a choice what would you rather do - a comedy which has got you so much fame in Bollywood or a serious film that will allow you to do something different?
"If I could I would do both - only thing is I have to take out time. For me serious is easy. I can do it from morning to evening without any problem. I don't get tired. My energy levels are fine. I get home in the evening and I don't feel tired at all. So for me that's a big plus point in doing serious films. As far as comedy is concerned I get so tired and drained out by the end of the day… you know because it requires so much energy to do comedy. It's difficult to do comedy. Your timing has to be perfect. You can't go a little more because it becomes too much. You can't go less because it becomes under. It has to be just right so it takes a lot of effort from the actor. There is a lot more mental pressure. For me ideally I would like to do 2-3 serious then 2-3 comedy films and that would be the perfect way I would like to do my films!"
