Personally for me Asha. Even though Lata is more melodious, Asha's voice is a lot more versatile, energetic and emotive that makes her songs fun to listen.

She says it happened to other singers too, but more to her bcz she was becoming successful quickly, all her songs were hit and with top music directors.

if I remember correctly Sharda was brought in as a replacement for Lata by Shankar Jaikishan duo and Lata was understandably upset with them for doing so... and for a time period there relationship went sour also (if I'm not wrong). however if Sharda and lata are compared then - honestly- Kahan Lata aur kahan sharda... Sharda was a very good singer but Lata was the best in those genres of songs that Sharda sang... those songs would have sounded much better if Lata sng them (in my opinion). No wonder even Shankar-Jaikishan had to go back to using Lata. 😛

Totally disagree with you about Sharda ji, NathuPyare ji... But that's okay, let's agree to disagree...

And She was introduced by Rajkapoor not Shankar Jaikishan

RK spotted her liked her voice and selected her for his movie

The diff. between the other male singers you mentioned and Lata ji is that they monopolized the industry by their talent and individuality, Of course Lata ji has those qualities too, she had them in spades but in addition to that ( according to what I've heard from various sources over the years) she actively blocked new singers career...

Her supporters disagree and ask how's that even possible? We'll never get to know the whole truth.

But I agree with you about OP Nayyar @ NathuPyare, he does sound like an egotistical and conflicted person, he had feud with everybody even with Rafi Saheb...

And what is he saying in this IV ( thanks for the link NathuPyare ji) that he was afraid Lata would poison him... Did he really think she was capable of that?

Did Raj Kapoor introduce her during "around the world in 30 Days" ? I read somewhere that Shankar Jaikishan were actively promoting Sharda but eventually had to go back to Lata. Even Lata had stopped singing for raj kapoor after the royalty issue and when she came back in the raj kapoor camp (with Laxmikant Pyarelal, if I'm not wrong) it was celebrated like anything. why would they do so if they already had a singer of Sharda's calibre unless she was not superior to Lata?

In some interview I read (i can't find the link right now) Lata refuted this claim that she actively blocked new singers... and I chose to believe her. Lata separated herself from filmfare awards so that new talents could be awarded? why would any singer do that if she was so jealous of other talents getting recognition? ... and the very same singer who fought with industry giants to get recognition for female singers name on the movie records. Did you know, earlier, on the music records, the playback singer's name was not even mentioned, instead the song was attributed to the name of the female character in that movie... for example - Kamini on the music record of 'Mahal'. Lata fought not just for playback singers rightful credit on music records but also for their rightful Royalty... and still didn't accept filmfare awards after an initial few (to let other talents come forward..yet she is blamed for sabotaging other singers' career) ... 😕

regarding Hemlata who u mentioned in your previous post... i absolutely adored her singing... but the reason of her failure was not Lata. Lata wasn't even singing that many songs in 80s. Did you know the story behind Hemlata's entry in the industry? If I'm not wrong she was supposed to make her debut under Naushad but he put a condition that she had to train under him for 1 full year and in that duration she will not do any movie. But ravindra Jain heard about this exceptional singer and persuaded her to sing for " ankhion ke jharokhon se". the music was superhit but Naushad was upset with Hemlata for going behind his back and subsequently refused to continue her training. In my opinion it was a BIG loss for Hemlata, as she definitely had the potential and only need further grooming...which she unfortunately couldn't. I don't think Lata sabotaged her career but she sabotaged it herself. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this story of Henlata, as I'm only recounting it based on my memory...

P.S. - I'm not that old (or respectable) to be called Nathupyare Ji... :P

and it's nice to be able to discuss proper music with someone (i'm really passionate about music hence the long essays 😳 )

Yes Rajkapoor introduced Sharda in 'Around the world' but it got delayed and 'Suraj' movie was released first.. (If you're interested I've posted her IV in Pg 5)

It was very nice discussing music with you NathuPyare( no ji 😆)
