Eid-al-Adha also known as Bakr-Eid is the second of the two Muslim festivals celebrated each year. It falls on 10th day of Dhu-al-Hajj, last for three days and ends after sunset of 13th day of Dhu-al-Hajj.
Eid is celebrated to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail on Allah's command. He was all ready to sacrifice but Allah intervened sending his angel Jibra'iil and letting him know that his sacrifice was already accepted and his son was replaced by a lamb and that''s what he sacrificed. Every year Muslims sacrifice a lamb, goat, camels or any other animal during any three days of Eid in remembrance of this day.
Eid celebration starts with Eid prayer held in Masjid after sun fully rises but before Zuhr prayer. Men, women and children are supposed to dress in their finest clothes to perform Eid prayer. After that Muslim who can afford it sacrifice their best halal animal. The meat of sacrificed animal is divided into three parts. One part is retained by the family, the other one is given to relatives and neighbors and the third one is distributed amongst the poor and needy.
