Akira grossed 25 crore nett in week one and the weekdays showed reasonable business helped by the part holiday on Monday but business remains on the lower side. Despite the fair weekday trend the big problem is low occupancy at major multiplexes of around 15% on weekdays which does not give it much chance in the second week as far as multiplex business is concerned. As far as single screens are concerned its hard for these sort of films to survive anyway. Jai Gangaajal earlier this year grossed a very similar 24.54 crore nett in week one and went on to do 32.56 crore nett business and that is probably the likely fate of Akira also unless the second week can really hold up.
The opening and Saturday business was the killer for the film. For films like this, either you open better and if you don't like Akira then you show strong growth on Saturday and Akira did neither which sealed its fate.
The low budget Hollywood release Don't Breathe which has done very well in its domestic market fared poorly in India with around 4.75 crore nett in week one. It was a limited release but despite that its occupancy was just 25% over the first week at major multiplexes.
