Part 4
09:10 AM
"Maybe I should have said this before, a long time ago, I don't even know if it would even be relevant now, but I just...I just wanted to apologize," he said, in one go.
"For what?"
He looked up at her. Her face was expressionless. Nothing. Nil. No give away. He knew he was trapped. He knew because he didn't have an answer to that. He didn't know why he was sorry, why he was apologizing, he just knew it was common courtesy to do so, so he did. But why? He didn't know.
Does he regret it? Does he regret what he did all those years ago? Does he regret never stopping her? Does he regret letting her go? He didn't know. What he knew, he had no idea.
All he knew was, it was never going to work. There was too much damage. Too many words spoken, too many things said that neither he or she could ever take back. Too many wounds, too many battles, too many scars.
As he looked at her right now, he didn't have an answer. And he didn't realize he was lost in his thought, for so long, that she had given up. She wasn't expecting an answer because as much as he hated it, she still knew him. She knew he didn't know; he didn't know what had gone wrong. Why he was apologizing.
He didn't know what to say and seeing as she didn't push it either, he did what she was doing and looked out the window. It was sunny outside. Bright. He smiled. He loved the sun, the brightness it brought, no matter how dark lives could be, how dark people could be, how darkness could be filled in people's lives, the sun will never stop shinning. It will never stop brightening. Amongst all the uncertainties in lives, this was certain and so he smiled.
09:30 AM
He looked at her again and studied her. She was different. Yes, she still looked the same, but she was different. She had more wrinkles on her face. Her smile wasn't the same. She wasn't the same. And he wondered why. What had happened over the years to make her this way. If she left because she was unhappy, then she should've been happy, and yet, she doesn't look like she's been happy even a day after she left.
"Was it what you wanted?"
She looked at him, this time with a confused expression. What did he mean? What is he trying to say? Was me leaving what I wanted? Was the life I had after I left the life I wanted? Was the job I have what I wanted? What?
"The life you're living after you left your old life behind...was it what you wanted?" he asked, seeing her confusion.
Was it? Was it what she wanted? She didn't know, but she knew she couldn't stay. She knew her staying wouldn't have been good for either of them, it would've destroyed both of them. So was her leaving better?
"Yes." It was simple.
He wanted her to elaborate. But he knew she won't. because she wasn't the same Ishita anymore. The old Ishita wouldn't leave a chance to talk. This Ishita however, barely spoke. And he wondered. He wondered if it was him. Him. He still boiled Raman's blood. He still affected Raman. And so he wondered if it was him, him who changed her. If this Ishita who used to be his, is now that guy's Ishita.
09:45 AM
Ishita knew she had to start preparing for her dental conference. She knew she would have plenty of time in the train so she didn't do it beforehand. She almost smacked herself in the head. Why did she have to be foolish and take the train. Why did she think she would have fun? Why was she trying to be reckless? Why did no one stop her?
Her phone started to ring, and even before she looked at the screen, she knew who was calling her. She contemplated whether to answer it or ignore it. She answered it, because she couldn't let her stupidity worry him.
"Hello?" she didn't want it, she tried to stop herself but she couldn't, so she looked at him. And as she guessed, he was looking right back at her. But what surprised her was how angry he looked. Not surprising after all, she guessed. Because Raman and angry shouldn't be a surprise, ever. She looked outside quickly. "Yes. No, no. I did. It was good...yes. No, don't worry. I'm sure. Yea, sure I'll call her. Its good. Yes. I will. Bye." She hung up. Not daring to look at Raman this time.
After hanging up, she dialed another number. A smile on her face this time. "Hello! Good morning, baby. Yes, I did. Did you? What? Oh I miss it already! I miss you too! Soon. I will let you know. It was good. Oh, you know... the usual. It's good. Yes, yes I will. I love you too. Take care, baby!" she hung, this time with a contented smile on her face.
He stared at her through both her phone conversations. He knew the first caller was Mani, he could bet his life on it. What he didn't know was, who the second caller was. And why she seemed so happy to talked to that person. Judging by the conversation, it seemed like a kid. She also couldn't understand her expression. Why she seemed so serious with Mani and why she seemed so content with the latter caller.
I dare you to post a thing about anyone other than DivAn.
