Ishwari and her guilty pedestal...
A much acclaimed heroine in her household as an example of quintessential mother. She has been put on the a pedestal by Dev, the pedestal of being his God. Mamaji and the rest of the household is mostly busy revering her. Neha probably is the only one around her who has the guts to stand up to her even though not always with the right conviction or reason. A women with immense amount of determination and grit to stand against the world, sole provider for her four kids and ambitious enough to push her son towards success even at the cost of her being hit by an employer or even letting Neha take the brunt of her favoritism towards Dev. She does not believe in pulling her punches when situations stand against her will as we saw at the time when Neha's first engagement broke or even in her dealings with Sona after Dev's declaration. She is quite intelligent and master at manipulation, we saw that part of her in her dealings with Dev, Sona and her family.
Dev as it usually happens with many mother's is her strength and weakness both. Women or men whose faced such struggles in their past may go through a shift in their inherent character for life. The obsessive nature of her demand to be the ultimate reigning supreme in her sons life just gives a glimpse of the abnormalities she is carrying in herself.
The Khatri angle of the story is still in the dark and Ishwari at some point in time agrees to giving in, and making one mistake. Though giving in to Khatri does nothing to reduce the respect she still deserves as a mother ready to cross lines to cope with life's situational hazard. But the point is that again is something she tries to hide from Dev to not lose her image in his eyes.
When you have been governing over lives for more than 15 yrs of your life, you yourself get enamored of the pedestal and start believing in your right to do so. But pedestals are lonely, dangerous and compulsively unjust places to be. Pedestals rob you of the liberty to make mistakes, to ask for forgiveness, they are most often than not ridden with guilt, hurt and insecurities. I can only sympathies with her, it's difficult to hate such a person. Ishwari's journey to muddle through all these emotions and finding her rightful place in her loved ones life is never going to be easy, but then if it's easy it's not much worth living.
