DIVINE APPOINTMENT WITH THE SWEETEST ROSE
PART 1
"I want to go home. I want to go home. I don't want to stay here." cried Palak.
"Palak, you have to. Come on baby. Every night you cry and can't sleep because of tooth ache. Please baby. The dentist will make it better."
"No, it will be hurt. I know. Priya told me." She wailed even louder and clung to him even tighter.
"Scaredy cat Banana rat, Scaredy cat Banana rat" chanted Payal.
"Payal, it's not nice to call you sister names." Yash was now at his wits end with these two. He wished the dentist would hurry up. It was their family dentist but he had not been there in years. He himself hated the dentist and now he was supposed to tell his 5 year old daughter that there is nothing to fear.
He saw a lady in a white coat coming out of the office. Probably Dr. Sharma's latest dental assistant. The thought that she was extremely attractive flitted through his mind amidst the chaos that he was facing with his girls. He would have preferred to leave Payal at home but she had insisted on coming along.
The dental assistant came directly to them.
"Why the tears, pudding?"
Palak shook her head.
"Why are you shaking your head?"
"Not pudding." Palak she said through her tears.
She laughed loudly throwing her head back.
"Sorry my pud ... Sorry Miss Palak. But you look like a sweet girl and that is why I called you pudding. I love pudding, hot pudding, cold pudding, in fact all kinds of pudding. When I was your age my mom always used to scold me because I only wanted pudding and no supper." She giggled.
"You only ate pudding."
"No, pud ... Palak. My mom was very strict. She always used to say "Aarti Satyendra Dubey, you are a naughty, naughty girl. And you won't get any pudding until you've had your supper." She pointed her finger and made a stern face.
"And did you eat your supper?"
"Yes, I had to because I wanted the pudding you see."
"Oh"
"So you didn't answer me sweet Palak. Why the tears?"
"It's Pappa."
She looked at him as if he was a naughty boy.
"And exactly what did pappa do?"
"He brought me to the dentist."
"What is wrong with coming to the dentist?"
"It hurts. Priya said so."
"Did Priya come to this dentist?"
"I don't know."
"I don't think so. Because at this dentist we really try our very best not to hurt anyone. And besides, doesn't it hurt already when you have toothache."
"But I am still scared of the dentist?"
"You or scared of me. Little old me?"
"Not you. I like you." Palak smiled.
"But I am the dentist."
"You?" Finally Yash spoke up. "But I have been coming here for years. Where is Dr. Khanna? How long have you been practicing, you look too young." He was not secure about entrusting his daughter in the hands of this young dentist. She was very beautiful but very young.
She was immediately irritated. Typical she thought. She was not surprised but it always angered her that men underestimated her because of her youthful looks and because she was attractive. They all wanted to fit her in a box. She was tired of having to prove her capabilities.
She looked at him with fire in her eyes. But she couldn't voice her displeasure in front of the girls as she wanted to.
"Sir, Dr. Khanna was one of my lecturers and he had full confidence in me. That is why he sold his practice to me. I am quite capable, I can assure you. Despite my youthful appearance" she jabbed gently.
Yash almost smiled. He could almost see the smoke coming out of her nostrils and even her eyes were shooting daggers at him. She appeared to be quite the spitfire. Quite the capable spitfire it would seem. Dr. Khanna was one of the most renowned dental surgeons in the area. He was seen by the most affluent in Bhopal and he was also renowned for making himself available for free dentistry in impoverished areas. He wasn't even aware that he had retired. Why weren't dentist this cute in his day, he thought.
"So my sweetest Palak, will you come with me and we will see if we can fix your achy teeth, so that your pretty face won't have to be spoilt by tears anymore?"
She looked at her dad and he nodded and then she looked back at her.
"Dad, would you like to come along?" Aarti asked him.
"No thank you." He said.
"Are you fine with just me sweetheart?" She asked Palak.
She nodded.
She took her inside and put her on the chair. She examined her mouth and found the culprit. She only did a clean and did x-rays.
"See my angel. It wasn't that bad. But the next time we have to take your tooth out, but I will have your daddy get you some medicine to make it better before I take it out. It won't give you any more trouble and when 5 sleeps are over, you come back here. Ok? Let's go and tell Papa."
He was sitting outside with his other daughter on his lap. She wondered where his wife was. He seemed quite tense.
"Mr. Scindiya, Palak was a very brave girl today. She has an abscess so I have prescribed some antibiotics before I can do the extraction. She has to come back after completing the course." She looked at her lovingly. "See you in 5 sleeps my pudding. Sorry, Palak."
"I like it when you call me pudding." She smiled back.
Palak was such a surprise to him. She didn't take to people easily and this woman had her at ease in no time. And he was quite looking forward to seeing her again.
5 days later Aarti was standing in front of her mirror. It took her forever to get dressed today. She couldn't decide what to wear and what to do with her hair.
"Uhhh!!" She grunted. "What is wrong with me? He is the father of a patient. And where there is a father there is a mother so why are you worried about your appearance. He probably doesn't even know you exist."
She put on a pair of jeans and a shirt and tied her head up in a ponytail and left for work.
Yash was sitting in the waiting room. Palak was yammering away. She couldn't wait to see Dr. Aarti again. And this was his problem; she was not the only one that felt that way. His marriage to Arpita was an arranged marriage and he grew to love her, but she had never evoked such craziness in him. It was all so confusing. He almost felt like a lovesick teenager. And it annoyed him no end.
Finally the assistant called Palak's name and they went in.
"Hello, how is my pudding today."
"I am sweet" Palak giggled.
"Yes you are" she pinched her nose.
She explained the procedure to her and Yash and applied the laughing gas and went ahead with the extraction with the help of her dental assistant.
Then it was time for them to leave. They greeted.
"Umm, Mr. Scindiya, you should really bring the girls for dental check-ups every 6 months. In fact everyone should have a check-up every 6 months."
"Yes, yes. You're right. I can bring Payal tomorrow for hers."
She didn't know why she said it. It was true, but she somehow wanted to ensure that she sees him again.
"So tomorrow?" He asked again.
"I am fully booked." she said.
"Ok" he said disappointedly
"I could stay later and she would be my last appointment."
"Yes" he said too enthusiastically.
"Fine, see you them. I mean, I will see Payal then." She said happy yet confused about what she was feeling for what was in all probability a married man.
She had to do some convincing for her assistant to stay later but she eventually agreed. And now they were on their way again.
"Dr. Dubey. I am taking the girls out for supper. They wanted to know if you could join us."
"No sorry, I already have plans."
"Ok" again he was disappointed.
"Today is Wednesday. Every Wednesday I go to the orphanage to help feed the children."
"We can go with you the orphanage" he said.
She looked at him, with his designer suit. He could see what was going on in her mind.
"You? Go to the orphanage? Like that?" she asked.
"So who is pre-judging who now?"
"But..." she looked at his clothes again.
"Pappa what is an orphanage?" Payal asked.
"It's for children with no mummy's and daddy's silly" answered Palak.
She smiled at the two cutie pies.
"We don't have a mummy." said Payal.
Aarti looked at him in surprise.
"But you have a Pappa and a whole family. So you are not an orphan" He said as he finally tore away from her look of pity.
"I ... I'm sorry." Aarti said.
"Did you know my wife?"
"No?" she said baffled.
"Then why are you sorry."
"I was ... I was just ..."
"Yes, so just stop. I don't need your pity." He was tired of the standard response when people found out that he was a widower.
Again her frustration rose to the max. Was there any need to be so rude?
"I have somewhere to be so please excuse me."
"We are going with you."
"Fine, follow me in your car" she said irately.
The kids loved it. He was so uncomfortable. His suit was ruined from the dirty, food stained little hands. And on more than one occasion he found her looking at him with an "I told you so smirk from the other side of the room.
Eventually he just shrugged and opened his arms as a form of surrender and she burst out laughing. She had the most infectious laugh he thought and smiled back.
"Thank you Mr. Scindiya. The children appreciated it. I will reimburse you for the suit."
"I will get it cleaned. And besides I have quite a few of these."
"Good night, Mr. Scindiya. Good night Puddings" She kissed their cheeks.
She was getting into her car and he called after her.
"Dr. Dubey. I told my Bhabhi about you?"
"Yes?"
"She wants to bring her kids to you as well."
"Ok, let her phone my assistant for an appointment."
"For tomorrow."
"Unfortunately it will only be for next week. I really am fully booked." She said and got into her car and drove off.
He sighed. What was wrong with him? He must seem desperate to her. No, he wasn't going back there. Vidhi Bhabhi can bring Vendant and Vedhika herself.
Aarti was disappointed when she saw only his sister in law in the waiting room.
"Mrs. Scindiya, please come through."
"So you are Dr. Aarti?" she said with a curious smile on her face.
"Yes, why?"
"It all makes sense now."
"What?"
"Never mind she smiled at her beautifully."
She attended to both the 8 year old Vendant and the 10 year old Vedhika. She escorted them out. They were all surprised to see him sitting in the waiting room.
"Yash, and this?" said Vidhi.
"I was passing this way so I came to pick you up Bhabhi."
"And the driver?"
"I sent him home."
"Of course you did" Vidhi said, smiling broadly.
"Dr. Aarti, you should come and have supper with us. You seem to be quite a hit with many of the family members already." She looked at Yash meaningfully.
"Bhabhi ..."
"I mean the children, Yash bhayia. So will you come?"
"Thank you Mrs. Scindiya. Some other time."
"Please, Mrs Scindiya is my mil. Call me Vidhi."
"No, that would be disrespectful."
"Fine, then just call me Bhabhi."
She blushed.
"Look Yash bhayia she is blushing. Bright red like a rose. I wonder why?"
A week went by, 2 weeks and he was feeling restless. He wanted to call her but what would he say? Why would he need to contact her? He couldn't think of a reason. But the only reason that he could think of was the totally out of the question. He could never do that. Not for anything or anybody. He hadn't been to the dentist since he was a child. Yes Dr. Khanna was a good dentist but he had an irrational fear of dentists even then. He got cold sweats just thinking of it. Never, he would have to think of another reason he would just have to forget about her.
"Dr. Dubey there is someone here for you."
"I have finished all my appointments." She said.
"I know but he said that he wants to know if you could still see him. He is suffering from severe toothache..."
"Who is, Sunita?"
"The hot Mr. Scindiya."
"Sunita that is no way to talk about our patients." She reprimanded.
"Sorry."
"Tell him I will be right out."
She hastily took out her mirror, fixed her hair and pinched her cheeks for some colour. Again, she was amazed at the effect he had on her. Usually she didn't pay much attention to her appearance. Especially at work. She slammed the mirror down and left her office.
"Mr. Scindiya?"
"Dr. Dubey I was wondering if you could help me. I have been having toothache. I'm sorry to come here without an appointment."
"Oh,ok. Come through and I will have a look."
She walked ahead but he didn't move an inch.
"Mr. Scindiya?"
He was petrified. He started to move. With each step, his nerves became more and more frayed. He started sweating. He had come straight from the office. He was wearing a tie today as he had a board meeting. The tie was starting to feel like a noose around his neck. He nervously loosened it and the top button of the shirt.
Finally they were in the room and he she showed him the chair. He stood there staring at it.
"Is something wrong?"
He shook his head and swallowed hard and went to sit on the chair.
She moved close to him to examine his teeth.
"Open"
He shook his head.
"Open"
He shook his head again.
"How can I help you if you won't open your mouth?"
"It's gone." He spoke through pursed lips.
"Huh?"
"It's gone." He opened his lips more to speak.
"What?"
"Toothache"
"But let me just see where the problem is."
"No problem."
"You know what, you are worse than the girls. Do you have toothache or don't you."
"No."
"Then why are you here."
Then ... I had toothache then. Not anymore."
"Fine. I will get my assistant. I looks like I need help with you,"
She administered some laughing gas to him and he relaxed. She leaned over him to examine his teeth.
"Mr. Scindiya you don't even have one cavity."
"Because I look after my teeth very well. I brush twice a day and I floss as well. I hate dentists you see." He said not completely relaxed.
She was very amused. She started cleaning his teeth and then stated chatting to him when that was done. It was quite a funny sight to behold.
"Really?"
"Yes"
"Then why are you here."
"To see the pretty Dr. Dentist. She is a beautiful as the brightest red rose in full bloom."
"Is that so?" she laughed at his cheesiness.
"Yip."
"So you are wasting my time then?" she smiled.
"Nope"
"There is nothing wrong with your teeth is there?"
"Nope"
"You are pretty light on the gas I see. For this entertainment I won't charge you."
"Thank you pretty Dr. Rose"
"Pleasure, crazy man."
"Will you go out with me?"
"What?"
"What I meant to say is the girls want you to go out with them. And I have to take you."
"I see. And where will we go?"
"Anywhere you want to go."
"And when?"
"Tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow I have to work. How about Sunday."
"Sunday, is so many days away."
"Two days are not many. I can only make it on Sunday"
"Sunday. Sunday. Sunday. Only Sunday."
"Yes. I have given your teeth a cleaning and I expect you back for your check up in 6 months. I think I will have to take you home. You are not in any condition to drive."
"I can drive."
"I'm sure. But I will take you home anyway."
"Ok, Pretty Dr, Rose."
She drove him home and he dosed off in the car after he gave her the address. She woke him up and led him to the door.
"Good night, pretty Dr, Rose."
"Good night, Mr. Scindiya."
"Yash. Call me Yash."
She smiled and got into her car and drove home.
He was mortified. The driver dropped him there to collect his car. He was hoping not to see her. She must think he is a complete idiot. But no luck. She had his keys and the receptionist had gone to call her.
"Hello Mr. Scindiya"
"Hello" he said no making eye contact.
"Here are you keys"
"Thank you." he grunted and was about to walk out.
"Mr. Scindiya, I believe you said the sweet puddings wanted to spend some time with me."
"Hmm? Yes ... yes, that's right."
"And we agreed for Sunday?"
"Yes, Sunday."
"So what happens on Sunday?"
"Umm, I will call you with the details."
"Ok. See you then."
He nodded his head and left.
She had kept checking her phone. Nothing the whole day. It was already late. She was angry the one moment and the next she wanted to cry. Why she cared she didn't know. They were just patients, weren't they? She was foolish to think that there could be more. From now on that was all he would be. She got into bed. She would just forget about them. But she tossed and turned the whole night. It disturbed her so much that she was so upset about this whole incident.
She was busy with a patient when the receptionist told her there was someone to see her that Monday.
"Who"
"Mr. Scindiya"
"I am busy. Tell him to make an appointment."
The receptionist left.
She was angry. And he could at least have tried harder to see her. Obviously he just left because the receptionist didn't come back.
"Ouch" she heard her patient say.
"So sorry." she was taking her frustration out on her poor patient. She made a concerted effort to take more care. She walked the patient out to the waiting room and all of sudden heard.
"Dr. Aarti!" in unison. It was Payal and Palak. They each held a perfect bunch of red roses. He stood up from where he was sitting.
"Hello my puddings."
"We wanted to come fetch you yesterday. But we couldn't" said Palak.
"That's fine" she said,
Payal indicated that she come closer and whispered in her ear.
"It's all Pappa's fault. Taijee says he is a nana cause he forgot to take your number." she struggled to contain her laughter.
Yash stretched trying to make out what was happening.
"These flowers are to say sorry" said Palak.
"Do you like them" asked Payal.
"They are my absolute favourites. I like red roses just as much as I like pudding." she said.
"So you are not cross with us?" asked Palak
She shook her head, smilingly.
"Will go with us some other time?" Asked Payal.
"You two monkeys go colour in the corner, I want to speak to your Pappa."
"Yes, Dr. Aarti." they went to the play corner.
She walked to her office and he followed.
"Sorry. It was really stupid of me not to take your number. I only had the office number and when I wanted to call it was after hours."
"It doesn't matter. I don't think that it was a good idea anyway."
"What does that mean? You won't go out with me ... us anymore."
"No, you are patients and it is not professional."
"What made it less professional last week when you agreed?"
"It was a mistake on my part. I should never have agreed"
They stared at each other for a while.
"Fine he said and left the office."
"Come girls."
The jumped up from the table they were colouring and ran to them.
"So are you coming to the movies with us?"
"No, Dr, Dubey can't make it."
"But why?" they looked so sad and quite teary.
"Come let's go girls."
"Why Dr. Aarti?"
"I ... I ..."
"She's busy. Let's go." He grabbed them by the hand and dragged them.
"Wait. When are you going to the movies?"
"Saturday." Palak said.
"I have appointments till 11h00, but after I will be free to go to the movies."
"Yeah!!" the girls shouted.
"Are you going or aren't you? Make up your mind." he said with much irritation.
"I said I was going didn't I. Get me here at 12h00." she said back with the exact same tone.
"I will see if it suits my plans."
"Well if it doesn't suit you. The girls and I will go on our own."
He looked at her angrily. She made him crazy.
"Give me your number" he demanded.
"What's the magic word" she threw back.
"Please" shouted the girls making them realise that this was not the way to behave in front of them.
She gave him her number and they left.

Honey-Bee's Gift
PART 2
He was sitting and watching her play DDR and she was good. She was so good with the girls. She sat between them at the movies. Payal fell asleep as usual and she put her on her lap to make her comfortable. But she barely spoke to him. But there was that moment at movies when they both moved to put their arms around Palak, who was sitting between them. He felt a spark go through him and their eyes caught. He was sure he saw something in her eyes akin to what he was feeling. But she withdrew her arm and carried on watching. Now she was playing with the girls and there was such a rapport between them. He loved her spontaneity. And she was so down to earth for a highly educated, wealthy woman.
"Mr. Scindiya, we are hungry. Lunch is on me."
"Pudding" the girls shouted.
"No, good girls always have their food first. And I am a good girl" she said.
He snickered.
"Do you have anything to say, Mr. S?"
"Yes, I think you spend too much time around Nitrous Oxide that it is making you delusional. Let's get something to eat" he said and walked off before she could retort.
They sat opposite each other while eating each assisting one of the girls. They both stretched their legs at the same time. Knocking into each other. She tried to pull her legs away, but he held her legs between his. She looked at him and blushed. Then she turned her attention to Palak and continued feeding her. The 3 girls started an animated conversation and he just watched them and nodded and smiled when he was addressed. She insisted on paying for the food as he paid for the movies. He tried to argue but soon gave up.
Then they walked to the car. He held Palak's hand and she held Payal's hand. Then he reached for her hand and this time she didn't struggle. She merely entwined her fingers with his as they walked to the car.
The girls looked past them to each other and smiled.
Aarti was in 7th heaven after the time she spent with them. But then nothing. She waited. She even called. She left messages on his cell phone and office but he never returned them. She couldn't believe that she could feel so much pain for someone that that she knew for such a short period of time. Clearly she did not know him at all. She wanted to call the girls but that would just make everything more complicated. And then the incident at the mall happened. She was out shopping with her friend when she heard two familiar voices call her name.
"Hello my puddings. How are you?" she said hugging them.
"Fine" they said in unison.
"When are you going out with us again?"
"Girls, come on. Dadaji and Dadiji are waiting for us."
"Hello Yash."
He looked angry and cold.
"Sorry, that my daughters imposed themselves on you, Dr."
"Yash ..."
"Girls come. The doctor is busy."
He took them by their hands and left.
She was livid. What the hell? They go out and then he just ignores her and now this. She refused to be treated like this. He might treat his other conquests like that, but not her. She decided that she would not leave it there.
She went to his office and waited outside at his car.
She saw him coming and he looked angry when he saw her.
"What do you want?"
"I want to know what your problem is."
"My problem?"
"Yes"
"I don't have a problem. If you'll excuse me?"
"No, I won't excuse you. I want to know why you were so rude to me the other day at the mall."
"I wasn't rude. I don't want to impose myself or my daughters on you."
"Who said that you were imposing on me?"
"No one had to say it. Your rejection of my proposal said it all."
"What proposal? "
"Don't tell me you don't know about it."
"Well I don't. But I am glad that my parents refused."
"What? Do you think you are too good for me? Because I am a widower, because I have children."
"No, I just fail to understand why you went to my parents instead of speaking to me first. You know me, not them. And I can make decisions myself."
"That is not the way is done."
"No it is not the way it is done by you. I am a capable, educated, career woman and I think I deserve to be asked if someone wants to marry me. We are not strangers. I have even turned away numerous of those. By the way, why do you want to marry me?"
"I don't. Not anymore."
"Oh well, your loss. You won't find anyone better than me as your wife. Now you are probably going to get married to a traditional woman that will raise my pudding pies like little minions of her and all they will be groomed for is to be good little housewives for their mother in laws and at the beck and call of their husbands."
She let out a frustrated grunt.
"What was that?"
"You are so frustrating"
"Me, frustrating? You are the one that is frustrating. What is wrong with doing things the traditional way? That is the way my family operates. That is the way most of this country operates. Who are you Dr. Dubey to decide that it is not good enough?"
"Absolutely nothing is wrong with doing things the traditional way, if it is not to the detriment of my girls."
"Your what now?"
"Well, if they were my girls they would have had a wonderful mother. So as I said your loss. Now you will just have to settle for less."
"I will have you know that I am rich, charming, handsome and quite irresistible. Do you have any idea how many proposals I have received since my wife's passing. I don't have to settle. I have myriad of great options to choose from. Beautiful, well-educated and not at all as conceited as you."
"Conceited me. Coming from Mr. charming, handsome and quite irresistible. And exactly who finds you irresistible I wonder?"
"You do."
"What?!"
He grabbed her and kissed her. He finally released her mouth and whispered in her ear.
"You do, don't you"
"No she whispered hoarsely."
"Shall I prove it to you again?"
"Yes. I mean no. Dammit I do find you irresistible" she pushed him away and gave the same frustrated groan she gave earlier and stomped off.
He looked at her retreating back. What an enigma he thought. She was confrontational, bossy, conceited, and opinionated and and and ... But she was gorgeous, passionate, desirable, accomplished and she called them her girls. He had never wanted anything and or anyone more in his entire life than Dr. Aarti Dubey. He had to find a way to make her his, forever.
That did not go the way she had anticipated. She was used to winning and when she walked away from him she felt like she lost. And what was wrong with her parents anyway. Why the heck did they not tell her about the proposal? She had thought they were more evolved than that. She confronted them immediately when she got home.
"But Aarti, he has already been married and he has children."
"I know that. I am can make my own decisions. I have met them and I love them."
"You love Yash Scindiya?"
"No ... no I meant I love the girls." but as she said it she realised that she loved more than just the girls. They were a package deal and she loved him as much. Finally all the crazy feelings she was experiencing made sense. The voices of her parents were droning on in the background.
"Aarti. Aarti!!! You are not listening."
"Sorry, Mamma, Pappa. I have just realized that I do love him and I will marry him. No matter what you say or what he says. You have to contact his parents to accept the proposal but first I have to do something."
"Aarti, what are you going to do now."
"I am just going to talk to him that's all."
She heard her mother says to her father.
"Ji, this is all your fault. I told you to stop spoiling her but you wouldn't listen. Now look, she is probably going to embarrass us with the Scindiyas."
He was busy in his office when Vidhi bhabi called him with a huge grin on her face.
"The dentist is here to see you."
"What?"
"She is waiting."
He came out and she was talking to kids.
"Dr. Dubey? Twice in one day you impose yourself on Me." he said but his words belied his happiness to see her.
"Can we speak in private?"
"What can you say to me that you can't say in front of my family?" The whole family was there now.
"Fine. I came to say that one cannot make a proposal and then simply retract it. And I know it was declined but my parents declined without consulting me, so I will assume that the proposal still stands."
"Is that right?"
She nodded.
"So are you saying you accept the proposal?"
"Yes,"
"Why?"
"Because ..." she looked at everyone around her.
"I'm waiting" he said.
"I love the girls"
"Is that all."
"And I love you. Ok, is that what you want to hear? I love you. You just came to my office and forced yourself on me and now that I love you can't just not marry me. And that's all." She turned around and walked out of the house briskly.
He looked at his parents. They were clearly shocked at the display. He smiled and said.
"Yes, your bahu has a lot of spunk and I suspect that our home will be a lot more interesting from the time she moves here. Please contact her parents. I want to get married as soon as possible."
Then he ran after her. He grabbed her by the hand and dragged her along with him to his bedroom.
He closed the door and kissed her.
"Leave me. Because of you I had to embarrass myself in front of your family." struggling to get out of his arms.
"But you love me and you find me irresistible." He said not letting her go.
"That doesn't mean anything. You can't just do as you please." she was in tears.
"On the contrary it means everything. It means you will be my wife soon and it means that I can finally tame you." he said wiping her tears tenderly.
"Tame me!? What are you implying?"
"I am not implying anything. You my dear future wife need taming, unless of course it is my bed, then you can be as wild as you want to be."
She gasped. How could he say things like that?
"So my wild cat is still innocent in some matters. But I'm sure that it won't last long. I can't wait." the last words he whispered in her ear.
"Yash, you are completely shameless." she burying her head in his chest.
"When it comes to you I can't help myself. See, I find you irresistible too."
He kissed her till they were both out of breath.
"Now go home and wait for me to come and do things the traditional way. Can you do that?"
She nodded.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded again.
"And will you be able to be a traditional housewife like Vidhi Bhabhi and stop working because that is expected in our family. That is the only way we can get married"
She opened her mouth object. And then she closed it again. She looked so confused and sad. She looked down and bit he lip. He could see the war raging inside her head and burst out laughing.
"Don't worry my love. I love you as you are. Every single bit of you. And I won't ask you to change."
"Really. Really Yash? I can still work."
"Yes,"
She threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
"Perhaps I can get I partner so I can spend more time with the girls?" she offered.
"That's a brilliant idea. But would it only be to spend more time with the girls. Is that the only reason that you marrying me, for your Puddings?"
She fiddled with his collar and said looked at him seductively.
"Dessert comes in various forms, Mr. Scindiya"
"Mmm. Seems my future wife is a fast learner."
"This is true and you like that, I see"
"Very much."
"So when are we getting married."
"As soon as possible. I can't wait long for you."
He kissed her.
"But you have to go now otherwise I won't be responsible for my actions"
She smiled shyly as he let her go.
"Ok,"
She walked towards the door and as she was about to open it, she turned to look at him ran back to him and gave him a passionate kiss.
"Goodbye,"
She ran out the room. Stopped when she saw the family.
"Namaste" she said hugged the girls and left.
He was watching her from her from his balcony. He laughed aloud as he saw her run and give a leap before she reached her car. Clearly she was as happy as he was.
A month and a half later she was sitting on his lap on the balcony of the penthouse suite at the hotel that they were having their honeymoon. They were both happy for this time just to be together on their own. The time leading up the wedding was manic. She tried to find a partner to buy into the practice with her but there was no one that she approved of so she employed one of her old classmates as a second dentist. All the while planning a wedding and engagement. He too had several projects that he had to complete and had some things to hand over before he could take time off for the wedding. But it made the time go faster because neither could wait for the wedding. They did spend some time together but never alone. Always with the family or the girls.
Except for the one time that he surprised her at the office once again with a perfect bunch of red roses and a picnic basket. They sat and ate supper on the floor in her office. Then for dessert she gave him a whole new experience on the dentist chair.
She was still lying on top of him and he was panting heavily.
"Wow, Dr. Rose that was amazing. As I said, you are a fast learner."
"That was great, I can't wait for our first time as husband and wife when you make me yours completely."
"Me too, baby. Maybe its best that we don't see each other alone."
She giggled.
"Don't you trust me, Mr. Scindiya."
"No and I don't trust myself. Now get off me and get dressed."
Finally they were outside, holding each other and kissing, loathe to let each other go.
"Yash, what if I don't measure up to your first wife."
"Baby, you have nothing to worry about. I loved Arpita. She was a good woman, and excellent wife and mother. But I was never in love with her. And the kind of passion we just shared, I never experienced with her and we didn't even go all the way. I am madly and so completely in love with you. There is no comparison."
She smiled at him.
"I love you so much. You make me so happy." she said.
And now she was Mrs. Aarti Yash Scindiya in every sense of the word. She had felt guilty leaving the girls to come on honeymoon but he made it clear that he wouldn't budge. He wanted her all too himself. And she was glad now. They could explore each other and be as vocal as they wanted to be. In fact they waited to come here to consummate their marriage and since they had done that, they could not get enough of each other. They spent some time going for walks, shopping and swimming in their private pool.
"Happy. Mrs. Dr. Rose?"
"Very, and you?"
"More than I had ever thought I would be, my love. Thank you."
"No thank you, for stepping into my practice and into my life. You and my girls are the best things that has ever happened to me."
"And you to us. You are a great mother, and although I am looking forward to us making our little family bigger, I would like to have you to myself for a while before we have a baby."
"Agreed. But we can practice making a baby in the meantime can't we?" She said naughtily.
"This we can most definitely do." He laughed and pulled her in for a kiss.
"Love you so very much. I am so glad that you are mine forever."
"Love you too, my husband, my love, my life."
And they showed each just how much once again.
